6.25.16 URSS Sprints Results

The United Rebel Sprint Series rolled back through the pit gates with sixteen teams making the trip back to Byers to run a make-up feature from their May appearance that was interrupted by Mother Nature. Colorado Springs racer Justin Medlock led every lap of the race and grabbed his first ever victory with the URSS series.

Scott Rhodes led the field to the green flag with outside pole sitter Medlock grabbing the point with Rhodes, Bob Schaeffer, Nick Sutton and Austin Mclean rounding out the top five after lap one. Sutton and Mclean both made quick work of Schaeffer relegating him to the fifth spot on lap three. They set their sights on the second place car of Scott Rhodes, Mclean taking the third spot from Sutton on lap number five.

Back in the pack sixteenth starter Zach Blurton was making his way towards the front, taking over the tenth spot of lap five. Blurton soon made his way to the ninth position sending Brian Hardman back to the tenth spot on lap six. On lap ten saw Mclean takeover the runner –up spot as he made his way past Rhodes for the position. Coby Pierce made his move past a fading Sutton to take away the sixth spot away on lap eleven with Scheaffer retaking second from Mclean

Austin Mclean would take away the runner-up position back away from Schaeffer on lap fifteen. Zach Blurton had been picking off cars lap after lap and found himself on the tail tank of Scott Cochran by lap fifteen. Lap sixteen saw the red flag fly when Brian Hardman tried to pass another car on the inside coming off of turn four. Hardman made contact with the car and did a soft roll to end his night.

On the restart, Medlock once again powered his way to the lead with Austin Mclean, Bob Schaeffer, Scott Cochran and Tod Plemons in fifth. As the laps dwindled down Blurton was in sixth with Clint Shubert and Coby Peirce in his tire tracks. When the checkered flag fell it was Justin Medlock scoring his first URSS Feature win with Mclean second, Schaeffer third, Cochran fourth and Plemons rounding out the top five.

The Keizer Aluminum Racing Wheels “Hard Charger Award” went to Zach Blurton who came from his 16th starting position to finish sixth.

The United Rebel Sprint Series made its way back to the Colorado Motorsports Park Saturday Night with sixteen teams making the pull to the 3/8’s mile oval. The crowd on hand for the evenings racing at CMSP were not disappointed, in the four events held there in 2016 four different drivers have graced Victory lane. Quinter Kansas racer Zach Blurton scored his second win of the URSS season wiring the field in the twenty laps A Feature.

Tammie Jo Christie led the field to the green flag with outside pole-sitter Coby Pearce darting out into the lead with Blurton, Austin Mclean, Christie and Scott Cochran comprising the top five at the end of the first circuit. Blurton was on a mission as he swapped spots with Pearce to take the point and never look back. Behind them, Cochran, Brian Hardman and Bob Schaeffer duked it out for positions three through five.

Behind the front five Luke Lucero, make-up feature winner Justin Medlock and Scott Rhodes were all looking for an advantage to reel in the top five. Up front Blurton was the showing the lead with Pierce, Mclean and Cochran in tow. Lap twelve saw second place runner Coby Pearce go off track giving the runner-up spot to Mclean.

As the laps dwindled away it was Zach Blurton holding a comfortable lead and when the checkered flag fell it was Blurton grabbing his first Colorado Region win of 2016. Austin Mclean made it two runner-up finishes in a row with Scott Cochran, Brian Hardman and Bob Schaeffer rounding out the top five.

The Keizer Aluminum Wheels “Hard Charger Award” went to Scott Rhoades who finished eighth coming from his thirteen starting spot.
