6.25.20 Lernerville Speedway Results
Sarver, PA (June 25, 2020) Max Blair appeared to have victory seemingly put away on Thursday during night one of the Firecracker weekend. But a last lap charge from defending World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series champion Brandon Sheppard set the stage for a dramatic last set of turns as the two drivers battled hard for the feature win. After some contact as the result of both drivers putting it all on the line, Blair emerged victorious, taking his third career World of Outlaws victory.
Cade Dillard and Michael Norris led the field to the green flag and following an early red flag for a turn two pileup involving Rick Eckert, Darrell Lanigan, Dennis Erb Jr. and Brent Larson, Dillard set the pace while Blair began to move forward with authority. On the ensuing restart Blair chased down second running Norris and set his sights on the leader, making a pass for the lead on lap 18. Meanwhile, Sheppard was making headway towards the top three by getting around a strong running Bloomquist and made his way past Dillard for the second spot.
Blair had his hands full in the closing laps. A steady stream of lapped traffic negated any hope of clean air and Sheppard took advantage by putting his car on the top side of the speedway with precision and purpose, then made his move underneath Blair for the lead down the backstretch, but entering turn three, Sheppard gave little room for Blair who was not in the mood to back down as the two drove into the final set of turns both looking to come up with the win. In the process, the two made contact at the bottom of the turn four entry which sent Sheppard into a spin, bringing out the final yellow flag of the night. Officials ruled that Sheppard had indeed come to a complete stop and sent him to the tail of the field while Blair made no mistake on the restart and rolled to the win and $6,000 paycheck.
The Firecracker continues on Friday with preliminary night two. Grandstands open at 5 PM with hot laps and qualifying scheduled for 6:05 PM and racing at 7:35 PM.
