The 10th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial would go down in the history books as one of the best ones yet at Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile on Saturday night for the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stocks. PPMS would see qualifying, nine heat races, two B-mains, a six-lap dash, and six A-main feature events. Bobby Whitling (7W), from Seneca, would outpace a stellar field of Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stocks to win the 10th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial 30-lap a-main feature event, picking up the $5,017 to win the grand prize. Jason Johns (31), from Oil City, would pick up the win in the Dobs Auto non-qualifier for the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stocks. Zach Morrow (48), from Gibsonia, would get his first career PPMS victory for the Rohrich RUSH Late Model Dirt Series, while Frank Magill (05), from Jefferson Hills, would bring home another win for the Priority Equipment Rental Hobby Stocks. Bill Tennant (2), from Colliers, West Virginia, would pick up another victory for the Crawford Auto Repair Four-Cylinders, and Logan Koteles (5K), from Stockdale, would make it three wins in a row for the Crawford Auto Repair Young Guns.

46 Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stocks would sign in for their chance at winning the 10th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial. This coveted event would see the 46 entries broken into five groups for qualifying to determine their starting positions in the five heat races. Bobby Whitling (7W) would not only set the fast-time for his group but he would also set the overall fast-time with a time of 19.854. Whitling (7W) was the only driver with a time sub 20 seconds. The five heat race winners would enter the redraw for the six-lap dash to determine the top five starting spots in the 30-lap A-main feature event. Chris Schneider (55), from Lower Burell, would win the six-lap dash, which ensured him the pole position in the A-main. Whitling (7W) would start to his outside in second place while Todd Weldon (45) would start third, Jamie Duncan (67J) would start fourth, Brian Hutcko (60H) would start fifth, and Jason Humanic (17) would complete the top three starting rows. When the green flag dropped in the 30-lap A-main, Schneider (55) would pull away with the early lead. By lap five, Schneider (55) almost had a full straightaway lead over the field but the event’s first caution would slow the pace for the 45 of Weldon who had a flat tire. Schneider (55) would take the outside on the restart and when the field returned to green flag conditions, Whitling (7W) would challenge Schneider (55) for the lead for several laps. While Whitling (7W) and Schneider (55) would battle for the lead, twelfth-starting Daryl Charlier (114) was making his way to the front of the field and by lap seven, Charlier (114) was already in third place. Whitling (7W) would steal the lead from Schneider (55) on lap 11 and on the same lap, the field would see another caution. Whitling (7W) would take the inside on the restart with Schneider (55) to his outside in second, Charlier (114) in third, and Hutchko (60H) in fourth. The field wouldn’t complete a lap before the caution was back out for a car that hit the wall between turns three and four. On the restart, Whitling (7W) would appear to keep the lead but Schneider (55) would regain the lead at the line. At the halfway point, Schneider (55) was still leading with Whitling (7W) in second, Charlier (114) in third, Hutchko (60H) in fourth, and Humanic (17) in fifth. Lap 17 saw even more action when Charlier (114) took second from Whitling (7W) and just a few laps later, Whitling (7W) would reclaim second place. With the front-runners now entering lapped traffic, Charlier (114) was able to pass both Whitling (7W) and Schneider (55) to take over the lead near the end of lap 21. With four laps to go, Charlier (114) appeared to have the win in the bag when bad luck would strike. The car either lost the right front tire or had something in the right front suspension break which sent him straight into the wall between turns one and two bringing out another caution. Whitling (7W) would now lead the single-foul restart with Schneider (55) behind him in second place. Whitling (7W) would keep the lead when the green flag dropped for the final time in the event. Schneider (55) would pressure him for the lead but Whitling (7W) would lead the remaining four laps of the event, picking up the 10th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial Victory. It was also Whitling’s (7W) first career PPMS win. Following him to the line was Schneider (55) in second, Hutchko (60H) in third, Zachary Gustafson (983) in fourth, Noah Brunell (18) in fifth, Jackson Humanic (17) in sixth, Josh Seippel (84S) in seventh, Curtis J. Bish (29) in eighth, William Hurrelbrink (C8) in ninth, and Brett McDonald (25) rounds out the top 10. The heat race winners were, Weldon (45), Whitling (7W), Randy Wyant (11T), Hutchko (60H) and, Andrew Gordon (25). The top two in the B-mains would transfer and the winners were Zachary Gustafson (983) and Alan Dellinger (1R). The other B-main transfers were William Hurrelbrink (C8) and Pat Fielding (23). The hard-luck award went to Nick Kocuba (10) who bent a valve during hot laps. The hard charger was Noah Brunell (18) who had car trouble all night. Brunell (18) made the A-main on a provisional and started in spot 25, and he finished fifth. Zach Gustafson (983) won the outsider award which is the highest finisher in their first Ed Laboon Memorial.

In the Dobs Auto Non-Qualifier eight-lap feature, eight cars would make up the field, as there were 11 who DNS. Rocky Kugel (00K), from Boardman, Ohio, would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second would be Jacob Billyk (4). Jason Johns (31) would start in third, and Bill Slade (A22) would complete the top two starting rows. When the green flag waved, Kugel (00K) would pull away with the early lead. Jason Johns (31) would steal the lead from Kugel (00K) on lap two. Johns (31) would lead the remaining six laps of the event which went green to checkered. Following him to the line was Chris McGuire (63) in second, Kugel (00K) in third, Matt Bernard (7B) in fourth, Billyk (4) in fifth, Wesley McCray (32) in sixth, Slade (A22) in seventh, and Tanya Charlier (21) in eighth. Notables: Chris McGuire (63) started in eighth and finished second.

The Rohrich RUSH Late Model Dirt Series would see 19 cars entered. They were broken into two heat races with the top six from each heat entering the redraw for the 20-lap feature. Defending track champion, Ben Policz (14B), from Rices Landing, would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Zach Morrow (48). Joe Martin (10S) would start in third while Tony White (27T) would start in fourth, Jake Gunn (14G) would start in fifth, and Bill Kessler (09) would complete the top three starting rows. When the green light came on, Morrow (48) would take off with the early lead. By lap two, pole-sitter Policz (14B) had fallen back to third with Martin (10S) in second, and Morrow (48) still leading. Towards the halfway point on lap eight, Morrow (48) began to enter lapped traffic but a caution would slow the pace. Morrow (48) would take the inside on the restart with Martin (10S) in second, J. Gunn (14G) in third, Zach Gunn (17G) in fourth, and Policz (14B) in fifth. Morrow (48) would keep his lead and begin to pad his lead over the field. Morrow (48) led all 20 laps of the event en route to his first career PPMS Rohrich Rush Late Model Dirt Series victory. He was followed to the line by Martin (10S) in second, J. Gunn (14G) in third, Z. Gunn (17G) in fourth, Daryl Charlier (114) in fifth, Policz (14B) in sixth, Mike Reft (9R) in seventh, Bryan Hoffman (15H) in eighth, Colby Beighey (36) in ninth, and Joe Squatriglia (15X) in tenth. The heat race winners were Martin (10S) and Charlier (114).

20 Priority Equipment Rental Hobby Stocks would enter Saturday night’s event. The top six from each heat race would enter the redraw to determine their starting spots in the 12-lap feature. Jonathan Koteles (2K), from Stockdale, would draw the number one starting spot. To his outside and starting in second was John Cain (06), from North Versailles. Tony Magill (5), from Jefferson Hills, would start in third, and Cody Behanna (25), from Finleyville, would round out the first two rows. When the green flag dropped, the field wouldn’t even get a lap in before the first caution came out to slow the pace. A complete restart would ensue and T. Magill (5) would pull away with the early lead. T. Magill (5) would begin to enter lapped traffic around the middle of the event with his brother Frank (05) now right behind him in second place, Cain (06) in third, and J. Koteles (2K) in fourth. A caution would come with two laps remaining in the event and during the caution, it was noted by track officials that T. Magill (5) had a flat tire. He chose to remain on the track and lead the restart with his brother Frank (05) right beside him in second place. F. Magill (05) would take over the lead with two laps remaining, as his brother Tony (5) fell off of the pace with his flat tire. Another caution would come with one lap remaining in the event which forced a two-lap shootout. When the green flag dropped for the final time, F. Magill (05) would keep the lead. He would lead the remaining two laps of the event to pick up another Priority Equipment Rental Hobby Stock win. He was followed to the line by Matt Benard (15) in second, Cain (06) in third, Jacob Wiser (OU2) in fourth, Karlee Kovacs (221K) in fifth, J. Koteles (2K) in sixth, Behanna (25) in seventh, Tom Anton (64) in eighth, James Huff (83X) in ninth, and Ken Heasely Jr. (57) in tenth. The heat race winners were Benard (15) and Cody Koteles (1K).

The Crawford Auto Repair Four-Cylinders wouldn’t run a heat race so their pill draw was for their feature lineup. The five-car field consisted of, Bill Tennant (2) starting on the pole. Craig Rudolph (5R) would start in second, while Derek Quigley (65Q) would start in third, Justin Pellegrini (29P) would start in fourth, and Noah Bubeck (2B) would start in fifth. When the green flag waved, Tennant (2) would keep the early lead. Tennant (2) had a half of a straightaway lead over the field by lap two, and by lap three, he had a full straightaway lead over the field. At the halfway point, Tennant (2) was still leading with Rudolph (5R) in second, Quigley (65Q) in third, and Pellegrini (29P) in fourth. The only position change in the second half of the race was Quigley (65Q) passing Rudolph (5R) for second place. Tennant (2) would lead all laps of the event, picking up another PPMS win. He was followed to the line by Quigley (65Q) in second, Rudolph (5R) in third, Pellegrini (29P) in fourth, and Bubeck (2B) in fifth.

Four cars would be entered for the All Ways Safe Young Guns. They wouldn’t run a heat race, so their pill draw was for their six-lap feature event. Gavin Kokolis (91), from Oakdale, would start on the pole. Kiersten Chernik (5X), from Hookstown, would start in second, Cameron Hollister (44), from McDonald, would start in third, and Logan Koteles (5K), from Stockdale, would start in fourth. When the green flag dropped, L. Koteles (5K) would come from last place and take over the lead on the first lap. Lap two had L. Koteles (5K) still leading, Hollister (44) in second, Chernik (5X) in third, and Kokolis (91) in fourth. L. Koteles (5K) would lead all six laps of the event to pick up his third win in a row. He was followed to the line by Hollister (44) in second, Chernik (5X) in third, and Kokolis (91) in fourth.
