6.8.19 Canyon Speedway Park Results

While Roa led a majority of the Sands Chevrolet USAC Southwest Series feature event at Canyon Speedway Park on Saturday night, it would be Mike Martin snagging a long awaited victory in the 410 Non Wing Sprints. John Parmeley continued his hot streak at CSP with his fourth victory of the year in the Arizona Differential IMCA Modifieds while Taylor Kuehl grabbed her first win of the season in the Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer IMCA Sport Mods. In Allscapes IMCA Stock Car action it was once again George Fronsman in victory lane, earning his fifth win of the season while Mason Keefer earned his third feature win on the 2019 season in the Arizona Micro Sprints.

A solid field of 15 of the best sprint car drivers in the southwest region converged on CSP at the Birthday Bash and Kids Bike Giveaway night. In early action it would be Chargin’ Charles Davis Jr earning quicktime in the Beaver Stripes Qualifying sessions with a 15.373 second lap. Charles took quick time ahead of Jake Swanson (15.477) and Stevie Sussex (15.619). Heat races would kick off the racing action with RJ Johnson and Brody Roa both earning victories early in the night. At feature time Brody Roa would start from the pole position and take off from the field, leading a large portion of the race. Mike Martin, who started in the 3rd spot, worked his way up to the leader and made a late race swipe at the lead. On lap 27, Martin would take over and lead the final 4 laps of the night on his way to the victory ahead of Roa, Davis, Sussex and Hard Charger RJ Johnson. Matt Lundy would earn the bonus for top finishing 360ci in the 8th position.

A new points leader has been crowned after another weekend of Arizona Differential IMCA Modified action as John Parmeley earned his fourth win of the year, snagging a two point lead from the ever consistent Ryan Roath. To kick off the night in heat race action it would be Jay Foster and Bill Slocum grabbing early victories. Foster would start the feature from the pole, taking off from the field for the first few laps of the race. With Foster in charge, Parmeley would drive up from the 8th spot to challenge quickly. Parmeley eventually grabbed the lead from Foster as the 4th lap was clicked off, racing his way to another win. Parmeley’s victory would come ahead of Foster, KC Dieckman, Kenny Gill and TJ Wyman. Former points leader Roath would end up with a disappointing 8th place finish, dropping back to 2nd in points, 2 points behind Parmeley.

Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer IMCA Sport Mods once again sported a full field of cars with Artie Garcia, Ron Poe and Dominique Askren all grabbing heat race wins to start the evening. Garcia would lead lap one from the front row before Ron Poe, starting 6th, took over the lead on lap 2. Poe would lead until the halfway point of the race before later becoming involved in an incident that also took out points contender David Jones. Taylor Kuehl, searching for her first win of the year joined Chase Rudolf and Speedy Madrid as all three drivers drove from beyond the 5th row to fight for the lead. Kuehl snagged the point from her 10th starting position as lap 11 completed and would lead the rest of the way en route to her first victory. Finishing out the podium was Chase Rudolf from the 12th spot and the hard charger of the race Speedy Madrid who started in 16th.

In Allscapes IMCA Stock Cars it was Georgie Fronsman picking up his division leading 4th heat race win of the year to kick off the action. Come feature event time we would see Dennis Losing lead the first 3 laps from the front row before another battle broke out between Cody Center and George Fronsman. Fronsman grabbed the lead from Losing on lap 4 and never let Center see the lead as the two once again finished out in front of the field. Behind Center was another points contender Lonnie Foss, with Georgie Fronsman and Joey McCullough rounding out the top five. Center will maintain his point lead heading into the summer as he has a 2 point advantage over Foss, with 1 more point going back to George Fronsman.

Jackson Wellman, Eric Bartlett and Mason Keefer fired things off with wins in heat race action for the Arizona Micro Sprints. The feature was then dominated, as we’ve seen before this year, by Mason Keefer. Keefer started in the third position and jumped out to the quick lead, heading up the field from green to checker. Keefer grabbed his third win of the year ahead of Drake Edwards, Brandon Sutton, Jackson Wellman and Paul Martin. Consistency has been the key all year for Sutton as he grabbed his division leading 7th top 5 of the season to move forward with a 44 point lead over AJ Hernandez and Keefer.
