6.8.19 Wilmot Raceway Results

(Wilmot, Wis., Saturday, June 8, 2019)– Wilmot Raceway hosts the Eric Neeve Family Tribute Father’s Day Weekend Special featuring the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints, AutoMeter Wisconsin WingLess Sprints, IRA Lightning Sprints and Modifieds on Saturday, June 15. In June 8 First Responders Night action, Tim Cox of Park City, Illinois failed to win a Wilmot Raceway feature in 2018 while capturing the AutoMeter Wisconsin WingLess Sprints track championship, to a bottom line to lead flag to flag in the 20-lap feature.. “I didn’t want to stick to the low side, but decided I would make them go around me,” said Cox after winning his first Wilmot feature since 2017. “The car was set up perfect so I just stuck with it.” Cox led wire to wire, but not without pressure during the closing laps. Davey Ray of Davenport, Iowa worked his way into contention on a final restart using every bit of the 1/3-mile especially in the banked corners. On the white flag lap, Ray drifted over the outside rim in turn three ending up spinning and going from a possible last turn win to placing 21st in the 24-car field. Trevor’s Chris Dodd, a first responder himself who is a fireman, took second, Allen Hafford of Beach Park, Illinois third. Zach Raidart of Antioch, Illinois fourth and Jimmy Sivia of Winthrop Harbor fifth. C.J. Maleug of Johnsburg, Illinois captured his initial 20-lap Interstates Racing Association (IRA) Lightning Sprints feature of the season on a night when six young fans were winners too of bicycles sponsored by Lightning Sprint Race Teams. “The track surface was a little different then I expected,” said Maleug, who started in second row of the field. “I didn’t know who was behind me or where they were, so I just kept on it. For my family and crew this is a great win.” Maleug overtook early leader Kevin Frederiksen of Hales Corners just past the mid-way point. At the checkered it was Maleug with Kenosha’s Mike Neau coming back after an initial slow start moved him to the back of the pack second, Frederiksen was third. John Kirk of Johnsburg, Illinois fourth. Tim Brannam of Holiday Hills, Illinois fifth. “The car was a little loose, but I hung in there,” said Muskego’s Courtney Atkinson after winning her first 20-lap Street Stock feature ever. “I have to thank my sponsors and everyone who helps. This is awesome.” Atkinson started on the pole leading every lap with hard pressure from several contenders. At the finish it was Kenosha’s Craig Kreuser second. Pleasant Prairie’s Josh Gehrig third. Rob Maule of Hebron, Illinois fourth. Big Bend’s Mark Baker fifth. “That was fun,” said Ryan Andrews of Woodstock, Illinois making his initial 2019 start memorable by taking the 15-lap Bandit 4-Cylinder Stock Car main win. “It was a battle.” An initial family feud battle for the lead between Scott Ellis of Lake Villa, Illinois and his father Pleasant Prairie’s Steve Ellis had ended up with a tangle in turn three after Union Grove’s Dale Ehleiter took over. With five laps to go Andrews took over the point going on to the win. John Cole of McHenry, Illinois was runner-up following a tight battle to the finish with third place Ehleiter. Kenosha’s Ryan Johnson was fourth. Milwaukee’s Tony Barron fifth. “I have to thank the Simons (Mike II and Nick) family for allowing me to use a motor after my engine builder passed away this off-season,” said Joe Huenefeld of Cedarville, Illinois following his second 20-lap modified feature in three starts having won the May 4 season opener culminating a clean sweep of the evening’s modified events having posted fast time in qualifying and winning his 8-lap heat race. Waterford’s Mike Wittenburg was second. Eagle’s Steve Mueller third. South Milwaukee’s Chris Carlson fourth. Tim Hamburg of Dixon, Illinois fifth. Wilmot Raceway, a 1/3-mile clay oval, is located on the Kenosha County Fairgrounds in Wilmot, Wisconsin.
