6.9.18 Tazewell Speedway Results

The United Championship Racing Alliance hosted Round #4 of the 2018 season Saturday night at the Tazewell Speedway and fans of the “Dirty White Boy” Anthony White were not disappointed, as the Clinton,TN racer swept the night at the lightning quick “Bad-Fast” Bull-Ring. White discussed his team’s efforts as of late with track announcer Brady Cupp from Victory Lane and about chasing the $5,000 UCRA points championship. With this victory White now ties Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, TN with five (5) career UCRA victories, with the next most being a plethora of racers with three wins. White took the checkers in the Crate Late Model 50 lapper 1.737 seconds ahead of fellow front-row starter and current UCRA points leader Jimmy Elliott of Cleveland, TN. White was a two-time UCRA winner last season, including a rain shortened victory at Tazewell in May. … Eleven of 22 starters complete 50 laps.

Fan favorite Jason Trammell’s second quick time qualifying time was negated when he was light at the scales along with local Ryan Winchester. John Llewellyn of Knoxville scratched from the main event after setting second overall fast time to White. Jesse Lowe of Crossville, Tenn., started sixth and finished third battling Michael Courtney and Elliott race long. White’s Longhorn chassis is sponsored by “Stone Plus, Burchfield Drywall, Creative Fabrications, Competition Racing Equipment, Clinton Muffler, Outlaw Racing Parts, Erwin Construction, Copper Cove Cabin Rentals” and is powered by Phantom Racing Engines. The leader of the “Mohawk Nation” Jimmy Elliott still leads the UCRA points after four rounds with no finishes outside the Top 10 so far this season. Elliott’s finishes include a pair of runner-up nods and a single third place podium stand so far in 2018. Performance Racing Engines ($100) Fast Qualifier for the second consecutive time was Anthony White with a Lap Time of 12.240 seconds. Heat Race Winners were White, Elliott and leading $1,000 Rookie of the Year contender Michael Courtney of Knoxville.

Sportsman Late Models were also in the spotlight for an $800 to win feature. Current points leader Travis Fultz of Harrogate came into the night riding a high wave as he’d won five of the six Sportsman events held so far this season. Fultz was quickest in qualifying with Morristown’s Michael Boyd qualifying second. Drawing a four in the pill draw would put Fultz and Boyd side by side in the second row for the feature. The draw would put Gary Blanken of Morristown and James Parrott of Rutledge on the front row of the twenty lap feature. Blanken would take the point after the drop of the green as Parrott, Fultz, Boyd and Matthew Smith of Barbourville, KY filed in line behind him. On the second lap Fultz shot to the inside of Parrott on the back stretch to take away second.

By the fourth lap Blanken and Fultz had begun putting a gap between themselves and the rest of the field. After staying on Blanken’s back bumper throughout the opening laps Fultz dove down into turn four on lap eight to pull even with the leader. On the next Lap Fultz wrestled the lead away in turn three. After getting clean air out front Fultz would cruise the rest of the way for his sixth win of the season in the Overholt Motorsports, Petty’s Wrecker Service, Tim Fletcher Heating & Cooling, Harrogate Collision Center sposnored Rocket Race Car powered by a DJ’s Performance Race Engine.

In Classic Car action last week’s winner Hayston Collett of Harlan, KY set quick time in time trials with a lap of 14.384 seconds with fellow Harlan native Brian Saylor qualifying second. Collett would take the lead on the first lap trailed by John Stevens of Wallins Creek, KY and Maynardville teammates Rusty Welch and Quincy Arnwine. Saylor would have troubles in the opening laps as he crashed his car into the outside wall in turn two.

With laps winding down it looked like Collett was on his way to his back-to-back wins yet bad luck woul strike the leader on lap fifteen. As Collett and Stevens came upon the car of Eugene Lawson to put him a lap in arreears Collett would collide with the lap car, allowing Stevens to squeeze by and take the lead. On the next lap Collett would retire from the event with a flat right rear tire. Stevens would lead the remaining laps for his fourth win of the season in the Eagle Race Engine powered, Hensley Trucking, The Parts House, State Farm Insurance, Hensley Logging, Wallace Auto Sales, Hensley Grocery, Anna Mae Vapors, Red Eye Racing, Autism Awareness sponsored Classic Car. The win paid $400 to win with a $100 bonus each from Wallace Auto Sales in Maynardville and Cars Etc. of Knoxville.

Austin Atkins of Morristown went two-for-two for the weekend after winning on Friday night at Crossville Speedway and by leading every lap of the $600 to win Modified Street feature. Tazewell native David Clark was quickest in qualifying with a lap of 13.241 seconds with Atkins qualifying second. With the drop of the green Atkins took control as Clark and Bubba Loing of Morristown fought for second. By the fourth lap Atkins and Clark has pulled away from the rest of the field. Atkins would go on to lead every lap for the win piloting the WE’s Garage & Custom Graphics, Ruby’s $5 Jewelry, Mountainview FOE 4531 sponsored Monte Carlo.

In 4 Cylinder two-time tarck champion and current points leader Chuck McMahan turned in the quickest time in qualifying with Randy Dyke posting the second quickest time. Drawing a four on the pill draw would relegate McMahan to a fourth starting spot in the $400 to win feature. Starting on the front row would be Harlan County, KY natives Rufus Collett and James Collett, Jr.

McMahan and Collett, Jr would race door to door on the opening laps with Collett, Jr shoving his way into the lead on the second circuit. For most of the race the pair would race nose-to-tail and distancing the rest of the field by a full straight. On lap thirteen McMahan would make slight contact with the back bumper of Collett, Jr in turn two and had to back off. After sliding back McMahan would catch up to the leader yet run out of laps. Collett, Jr would go flag-to-flag driving the Collett Motorsports, Lyme Disease Awareness sponsored Mustang for his first win since 2013 and celebrate in Victory Lane with his wife and family.
