7.10.15 Civil War Sprints Results

(PETERSEN MEDIA- Aptos, CA)- In the midst of a spectacular season at the Ocean Speedway, Watsonville, CA driver, Justin Sanders, picked up his first Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster win on Friday night as he became the seventh different winner in 2015 by way of his Howard Kaeding Classic Victory.

With defending race winner, Brad Furr, and reigning series champion, Shane Golobic, leading the field to green, it was Furr getting the early jump as the race was ran at a torrid pace on a very tricky Ocean Speedway surface.

Out in front, Furr quickly opened a sizeable lead up as he quickly found himself amidst thick lapped traffic. As he began to work traffic, Golobic would begin pressuring for the top spot as the leaders began racing wheel to wheel.

On the ninth lap, Golobic would find a way around Furr to take command of the race, while fourth starting Justin Sanders would also get around Furr to take over the second position.

Continuing to set a strong pace out front, Golobic would fend off Sanders in traffic until the lone caution of the race flew on the 17th lap, giving the leaders clear track and forcing a double file restart.

With Golobic choosing the outside lane on the restart, Sanders had the opening he needed getting into turns one and two as he slid up in front of the race leader to take command of the race and bring the crowd to their feet.

With Sanders taking over the top spot, Golobic would have his hands full with a surging DJ Netto as the duo would battle for the second spot, allowing Sanders to get away and cruise to his first victory of the season with the series as he adds to his point lead.

“I am just thankful to have the opportunities I have this year, and am really happy to grab a Civil War win,” Sanders said in victory lane. “It was a different kind of track tonight, but it was racy and we were able to come forward.”

Netto would take the second spot on the white flag lap, but Golobic would work his way back around him in the final set of corners to grab second at the line as Netto settled for third.

Brad Furr would settle for the fourth, and Bud Kaeding would work his way forward from his 10th starting position to round out the Top-Five. Ryan Bernal finished sixth, Jonathan Allard seventh, Brent Kaeding eighth, Andy Forsberg ninth, and Clute, TX driver, Aaron Reutzel, rounded out the Top-10.

30-cars checked into the pit area for the opening night of the 5th Annual Howard Kaeding Classic opener, and it was Brad Furr setting the standard in time trials.

With four heat races kicking off the racing program, wins went to Shane Golobic, Ryan Bernal, Aaron Reutzel and Sean Becker.

Bradley Terrell won the 12-lap B Main while Furr won the Dash and earned the right to start on the pole for the 30-lap feature event.
