7.10.15 URSS Sprints Results

The Myers Engine URSS National Series 2015 National Points Chase kicked off with a good old fashion barn burner last night at Wakeeney Speedway as 32 teams checked in to do battle for the $1,000.00 winner’s share. Ten teams from Colorado made the trek to the first of three nights of racing that culminate with the $2,000.00 to win Wheatshocker Nationals weekend. McCook Nebraska driver Nate Berry made the most of his heat race finish and starting spot in the 30 lap main to claim his first ever URSS Series victory.

Keefe Hemel led the field to the green will outside pole sitter Nate Berry jumping out to the lead with Hemel, Jed Werner, Zach Blurton and Ty Williams rounding out the top five. Sixth starting Luke Cranston made his way up to runner up spot by lap three and set his sights on Hemel. Cranston made quick work of Hemel and took over the runner up on lap four. With Berry taking the bottom line Cranston took to the highside as the pair rocketed around the 3/8’s mile oval.

Zach Blurton soon put the pressure of Hemel as the pair went at it for several laps before Blurton took the spot for good on lap ten. Lap eleven saw the caution flag fly for the 911 sprinter of Ty Williams as he came to stop in turns three and four. On the restart Steven Richardson took the fifth spot away from Jed Werner and set his sights on Hemel.

Further back in the field, eighteenth starter Koby Walters was winding his way through the field and had made it up to the eleventh spot. Walters set his sights on Colorado racer Clint Shubert as the pair diced for several laps.

Back up front Berry and Cranston were putting on a show as the Cranston using the high line would close the gap in the corners only to have Barry take back the advantage on the straightaways. Behind the leaders Blurton, Hemel and Richardson were battling for position three through five.

Tenth starting CJ Johnson had been steadily working his way through lapped traffic and made it up to the seventh spot behind Jed Werner. With the laps winding down Johnson took the sixth spot away on lap twenty five. The battle for the fourth heated up as Richardson caught Hemel with the pair darting through the lapped cars.

With two to go Cranston was still using the high side to try to find a way around front runner Berry. Cranston would make up ground only to give it back lap after lap. With one lap to go Richardson fought his way past Hemel to grab the fourth spot as Cranston made a final charge to try to wrestle the win away. But Nate Berry was not to be denied as he powered off of the final turn to take the Checkers followed by Cranston, Blurton, Richardson and Hemel rounding out the top five

Koby Walters picked up the Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger Award moving up eight spots to finish tenth.

Heat Race Winners were Jake Bubak, Luke Cranston, CJ Johnson and Steven Richardson; the B-Main Winners were Lance Davis and Bob Schaffer.
