The United Rebel Sprint Series made its way to the Dawson County Fairgrounds Sunday night to complete its two day Nebraska swing with a visit to the Lexington Speedway. Always a drivers favorite track, twenty-one teams made their way through the pit gates to vie for the win. Three time National Champion Jake Bubak made the trek to Lexington and picked up his first URSS win of the 2016 season.
Darren Berry paced the field to the green flag with third place starter “Flyin’ Brian Herbert” taking the lead down the backstretch with Berry, Bubak, Werner and Huish rounding out the top five at the end of lap one. Lap three saw Plains Kansas’s Luke Cranston move up to the sixth position and on the tail tank of Tyler Drueke. Cranston made the pass for the fifth spot on lap five.
Up front Herbert was still showing the way with Bubak drawing closer each lap. Lap seven saw Bubak get around taking away the top spot pushing Herbert back to the runner-up spot. Lap eight saw the caution wave as Howard VanDyke slowed bunching up the field. On the restart Bubak once again bolted to the lead with Cranston sliding his way into second with Herbert, Werner and Huish in the top five.
Tyler Drueke and Doug Lovegrove soon was applying pressure on Huish and relegated Huish to the seventh spot on lap eleven. Up front Cranston was tracking down Bubak each lap finally catching him on lap thirteen. Cranston battled his way around Bubak only to have the caution flag wave once again. On the restart Bubak once again took the point with Cranston in his tracks. Tyler Drueke made his way around Huish and set his sights on Werner. Thirteenth starter Jeff Radcliffe had been steadily making his way to the front and was in ninth place by sixteen. Radcliffe soon was up to challenge Blurton for the eighth spot. Lap twenty saw the caution wave for the last time as Zac Taylor and Tom Belsky tangled in turn two.
This set up a five lap dash for the win putting Cranston back on the tail tank of Bubak once again. On the restart Bubak once again pulled out to the lead with Tyler Drueke slipping past Cranston for the runner up spot. Jeff Radcliffe was soon challenging Lovegrove for seventh spot behind Herbert. Radcliffe took the spot on lap twenty three and went to work on Huish. Up front Bubak held the point with Drueke and Cranston trying to make up ground on the leader. Radcliffe made his way past Lovegrove with one lap to go.
As the checkers fell it was Jake Bubak taking his first feature win of 2016 with Tyler Drueke, Luke Cranston, Jed Werner and Jeremy Huish making up the top five. Jeff Radcliffe picked up the Keizer Aluminum Racing Wheels “Hard Charger Award” coming from his thirteenth starting spot to finish sixth. Heat race winners Brian Herbert, Jake Bubak and Luke Cranston
