7.13.19 Marysville Raceway Park Results
Marysville, CA (July 13, 2019) – A surplus of racing fans enjoyed a great night of entertainment at Marysville Raceway. With admission only being one dollar, the grandstands were packed, and the cars were stacked. Fifteen fire breathing winged sprint cars along with 15 Hobby Stocks and 10 IMCA Pepsi Sport Mods thrilled the large fan base.
Tonight’s winners included Todd Cooper during the IMCA Pepsi Sport Mod feature, Billy Wallace in the winged 360 sprint cars and first-time winner Eric Phillips in the Hobby Stock main event.
Mike Monahan jumped out to the early led. A lap one caution was needed for Michael Ing, who had bumped wheels with Brent Bjork coming out of turn four. Once the race resumed the next 20 laps were fast and fierce. Billy Wallace tried his best to shadow Monahan in second. Bobby Butler was third and having a great battle with Brent Bjork. The second yellow occurred on lap 21 for Robert Stice who stopped in turn three. On the ensuing single file restart, Wallace jumped to the inside of Monahan coming out of turn two and took the lead. “I was just waiting for him to make a mistake,” said Wallace. “The track was just to narrow and fast.” When Monahan bobbled a bit, Wallace drove away to get his first win of 2019. In fact, it has been a few years since Wallace and his family car has been parked in victory lane. Monahan held on for second. Butler was third. Bjork came home fourth. Brad Dillard rounded out the top five. Wallace led all eight-laps to win the first heat race. Michael Ing won the second heat race. Brad Dillard timed in the fastest with a 13.081.
Timothy Allerdings led the first two laps during the 20-lap IMCA Pepsi Sport Mod main. On lap three, Mike Merritt took the lead. At this point Todd Cooper moved into the second spot. Andrew Peckham took over the third spot on lap eight. On the tenth lap, Cooper found his way around Merritt for the lead. The next lap saw Phillip Shelby move into the second spot. Cooper never faltered the final nine laps and won his second feature of the season. Shelby finished second. Third went to Peckham. Merritt finished in the fourth spot. Scott Savell rounded out the top five. Credit should be given to this division. They ran a caution free main event. Good job to all involved. Cooper dedicated the win to his grandpa Harley Cooper. Shelby won the opening eight-lap heat race. Peckham took the lead on lap two and went on to win the second and final heat race.
The Hobby Stock 20-lap main event was sponsored by Mack’s Auto Body who supplied $200 cash to the winner. Other fans and sponsors contributed money including Casey Lee Photography, Red Neck Yacht Club of Marysville and Adam Wilson. With the money, the winner received $400 combined from track and sponsors. Eric Phillips led from the start. The rookie driver looked impressive up front. Chasing him for almost the entire distance was Zach Lindgren. We say almost because with about five laps to go Lindgren slowed. This moved Devin Ryan, Shannon Collins and Jesse Van Roekel around him. Props to ninth place starting Collins and eighth place starting Van Roekel for moving up through the field. Once Lindgren slowed, Phillips was all alone up front and won the race with ease. “I didn’t think we would get a win during our rookie season but this sure does feel good,” said Phillips. Danny Lavonte dominated the first heat race. He led all eight laps.
Eric Phillips pulled away to win the second heat.
