7.17.20 Red Clay Late Model Series Results

Friday night we went to Crossville Speedway for the first night of the Tennessee double header. We had 16 cars sign-in for the evenings events.

Booger Brooks set fast time in Group A with a 13.63 lap time and Claimed The Converter Man Fast Time Award. Matt Steward and Spencer Singleton were 2nd and third in Group A.

Group B saw Jake Green setting fast time with a lap of 13.67 around the speedway. David Kerr and Brandon Standfield were 2nd and 3rd in Group B

Booger Brooks, Jake Green, Matt Steward and David Kerr locked into the feature and the rest went to two heat races.

Cory Compton and Spencer Singleton sat on the front row of the Anthony Hill Grading heat race #1. Compton and Singleton raced hard into turn one with Compton coming out with the lead. Compton never looked back and picked up the win.

Brandon Stanfield and John Land brought the Berry Construction heat race #2 to the green. Standfield got a good start and took the lead going unchallenged to pick up the win.

Brooks and Green brought the field to the green flag and with a clean start the feature went 30 laps caution free. Brooks pulled out a couple car lengths with Steward getting by green and staying within 5 lengths of the leader. As Brooks raced deep into lap traffic around the 3/10th mile speedway, Steward and Green lined up nose to tail behind Brooks. Around lap 20 Grant Corum developed problems and pulled down the racetrack as the leaders started to pass him. Corum made contact with Brooks and caused Steward to get sideways and Green to take defensive driving actions by driving through the mud on the front straightway. This allowed Spencer Singleton to catch up and pass Green to take over the 3rd spot. All drivers involved maintained control and were able to keep going. Corum did pull in with fuel issues on his racecar. The rest of the field raced nose tail with passing when someone got out of the groove or took a chance and dove to the bottom searching for moisture. Brooks went unchallenged after the incident with lap car to pick up his 2nd win of the season with the Red Clay Series.
