7.19.15 URSS Sprints Results

The United Rebel Sprint Series capped off weekend number two of the 2015 Myers Engine URSS National Points Series Sunday night at Dawson County Raceway’s “Summer Heat Sprint Series.” The fans in attendance were treated to a whale of a race as Jason “The Hitman” Martin raced his way from his ninth starting spot to pick up his first URSS Feature win of the 2015 season. Martin is the eleventh different Feature Winner out of twelve races this Season making the URSS the Premiere 305 Sprint Car Racing Series in the Country with its amazing parity and quality of teams in the Series.

McCook Nebraska’s Nate Berry led the field to the green flag and jumped out to the lead but it was short lived as Berry looped his ride in turn four to bring out the caution before the first lap was scored. On the restart Zac Taylor took the point with “Flying” Brian Herbert, Zach Blurton, and Jed Werner and Steven Richardson rounding out the top five at the end of lap one. Lap two saw Werner take away the runner up spot from Herbert with Jason Martin making his way to the fifth position behind Blurton.

Lap four saw the battle for the third position heat up as Martin and Blurton were pressuring Herbert for the spot. The pair made the pass on lap five relegating Herbert to the fifth spot. Soon Herbert would be feeling the heat as Luke Cranston made his way to his nerf bar with Cranston taking the position on lap six. Right behind them Saturday Nights Feature Winner Jake Bubak was making his charge towards the front as he caught Blurton. The pair raced for the spot for several laps before Bubak took over the fifth spot on lap eight.

Up front Zac Taylor was still leading Werner who was back eight car lengths with Martin closing the gap each lap. As the leader started encountering lapped traffic the field began to bunch up narrowing the gaps between positions. Behind them Cranston was charging through traffic along with Bubak putting the heat on third place Werner. Cranston made the pass for the spot on lap fifteen bringing Bubak with him pushing Werner back to the fifth pot. Martin edged closer to Taylor with every passing lap and took the spot away on lap eighteen. Lap nineteen saw second running Taylor spin in turn two bringing out the second caution. Taylor’s mount suffered front end damage in the incident and was done for the night.

On the restart Jason Martin brought the field to the green flag as Bubak took over the second spot from Cranston with Werner and Blurton making up the top five. National Points leader Steven Richardson was tagged onto Blurton’s bumper in the sixth spot. Back in the pack B Feature winner Lance Davis was steadily making his way towards the front and soon found himself dogging Herbert for the eight position. The pair were soon joined by TJ Artz who after several laps settled in between Herbert and Davis in the eighth spot.

Up front Martin continued to stretch out his lead as Bubak and Cranston gave chase. Once again the leaders encountered lapped traffic and slowly the field began to bunch up. But Martin was not to be denied as he wove his way through the slower cars and kept the advantage to pick up the win. Bubak took the runner up spot with Cranston, Werner and Blurton rounding out the top five. Martin also picked up the Keizer Aluminum Racing Wheels Hard Charger Award moving up eight positions to pick up the win.

One note, in his Heat Race earlier in the evening Tracy Hill took a tumble off of the backstretch. His car was brought back to pits and just about every team had crew members over at his pit putting the car back together so Hill could make the B Main. Unfortunately he missed making the big show by one spot, but a huge hats off to all of the drivers and crews for the sportsmanship and help with whatever was need to give to get the 28T back out on the track. That is what this Series is all about and why it is a fan favorite here in the Midwest.
