DAD’S TURN THIS WEEK – RYAN WATT SCORES GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY NASCAR MODIFIED WIN ON A.D. MOYER LUMBER COMPANY BACK TO THE 90’s NIGHT

RYAN GRAVER RIM-RIDES THE TOP GROOVE TO SCORE SECOND CAREER SPORTSMAN FEATURE WIN

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. – One week following a feature win by his son, Ryan Watt of Boyertown, Pa. quickly raced his way forward from his tenth starting position and on to his first win of the season in the 30-lap T.P. Trailer NASCAR Modified feature Saturday night at Grandview Speedway.

Ryan Graver of Lehighton, Pa., who finished a very close second in last week’s Firecracker 40 championship race, followed up that performance by rim-riding the top groove of the speedway from his tenth starting position, and on to his first win of the season in the 25-lap T.P. Truck Equipment NASCAR Sportsman feature, in a racing program sponsored by A.D. Moyer Lumber Company, which featured a 1990’s theme and just $10 grandstand admission for spectators.

The winners both received bonus money (Modified $300, Sportsman $200) from T.P. Trailers and Truck Equipment of Limerick, Pa., sponsors of the two divisions at Grandview Speedway in a race program run under the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series banner.

Darin Schuler of Lehighton, Pa. jumped into the lead at the drop of Starter Ray Kemp’s green flag, followed closely by Bobby Gunther-Walsh of Allentown, Pa. who was challenging for the lead, followed by Cody Manmiller of Philadelphia, Pa. and Ryan Beltz of Barto, Pa. who were in their own battle for position.

Behind that action was another group battling for positions in the top ten including Eric Biehn of Barto, Pa., Justin Grim of Orefield, Pa., Ryan Watt, and Bobby Trapper of Scranton, Pa.

The battle for the lead was a good one, as Gunther-Walsh turned up the pressure on Schuler, diving low in the corners and running at times side by side for the top spot, soon to be joined by Manmiller, making for a three car run for the number one position.

A caution on lap ten reset the field, with Watt, who had been up to sixth by that point, rocketing past the rest of the top five very quickly, and took Schuler for the leading entering turn one on lap twelve.

Justin Grim and Mike Gular were also on the move on that restart, with Grim moving into second and Gular to fifth on lap 14, battling with Schuler and Manmiller for the top five spots in an entertaining battle, followed by another great multi-car battle between Biehn, a quickly advancing Logan Watt of Boyertown, Pa., Doug Manmiller of Shoemakersville, Pa. and point leader Brett Kressley of Orefield, Pa.

Ryan Watt had built up a comfortable lead while all the great action was going on behind him, only to have cautions reset the field on laps 19 & 20, giving everyone a new shot at the leader.

Watt, who was fast all night, quickly darted back out to the lead following the restarts, leaving behind a super four-car battle for second spot, as the drivers were practically under a blanket for many laps involving Justin Grim, Cody Manmiller, Mike Gular, and Brett Kressley, who was still on the move from his 22nd starting position.

The closing laps of the feature were frantic and wildly exciting, as drivers were swapping positions in the final laps, with Manmiller grabbing second, Gular working hard to pass Logan Watt for position three with two laps to go, and Duane Howard of Oley, Pa., who started 14th, joined the action gabbing several spots in the final circuits, advancing to fifth with just two laps to go.

At the finish, it was Ryan Watt scoring his overall eighth career Grandview Speedway win, including two Thunder on the Hill Series 358 Modified wins, and his sixth career Saturday night NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series feature win.

Following Watt to the checkered flag were Cody Manmiller for his best score of the year, Mike Gular, Justin Grim for his best run of the season, Duane Howard who had another charge from deep in the pack for a top five, Logan Watt, Brett Kressley who was the race’s Hard Charger advancing 15 positions, Jared Umbenhauer of Richland, Pa., Craig Von Dohren of Oley, Pa. who recovered for a top ten after being involved in a caution with just ten laps to go, and Louden Reimert of Oley, Pa. who charged to the top ten from 24th starting position.

Qualifying heats for the 36 cars on hand were won by Logan Watt, Darin Schuler, Eric Kormann of Carneys Point, N.J. and Justin Grim while Rick Laubach of Quakertown, Pa and Brett Kressley won the two consolations.

Stephen Laubach of Bangor, Pa. was the early leader in the 25-lap T.P. Truck Equipment Sportsman feature, while BJ Joly of Oley, Pa., Ebby Ridge of Upper Black Eddy, Pa. and Brett Grim of Coplay, Pa. were in a close race for second spot.

Several restarts shuffled the field between laps two and six, with Ridge taking over the lead from Laubach on lap five, with Graver quickly moving forward from tenth spot, rim-riding the outside groove of the speedway to grab fourth on lap six, and into second one lap later, before taking the lead from Ridge entering turn one on lap eight.

Graver continued to lead blasting around the top lane of the speedway in exciting fashion, while Dakota Kohler of Kutztown, Pa. moved up from 14th starting position to join Ridge and Grim in the battle for second spot.

Behind these drivers was another fantastic battle for the top ten positions between Mark Mohr of Gilbertsville, Pa., Mike Schneck Jr. of Lebanon, Pa. who was charging forward after starting from 24th spot, Kenny Gilmore of Fleetwood, Pa. up from 19th starting spot, Chase Gular of Pennsburg, Pa. up from 13th starting spot, and Dylan Swinehart of Fleetwood, Pa. who was on the move after starting in 25th position.

With no cautions to slow the action after lap six, Graver found himself reaching lapped traffic by lap 19, and began threading his way through traffic, never skipping a beat to maintain his comfortable lead.

In the closing laps action was intense all throughout the pack including Ridge, Grim and Kohler continuing their fight for second to the finish, with Kohler using the top groove to advance around Grim and then Ridge to grab second with just two laps to go.

At the checkered flag, it was Ryan Graver grabbing his first win of the season and his second career NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series Grandview Speedway feature win, followed by Dakota Kohler for his best run of the year, Ebby Ridge who also scored his best finish to date, Brett Grim who also had his best outing of the year, Kenny Gilmore, Mark Mohr for his best run, Mike Schneck Jr., Chase Gular, Dylan Swinehart, and Gavyn Krupp of Barto, Pa., who moved forward from 21st starting spot.

Qualifying heats for the 40 cars on hand were won by Mark Mohr, Colton Perry of Topton, Pa., Tom Miller Sr. of Gilbertsville, Pa. and Stephen Laubach while Gavyn Krupp and Kyle Hartzell of Bethlehem, Pa. won the consolations.
