7.20.18 Davenport Speedway Results

DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 20, 2018) – The Street Stock Clash was the featured event Friday at the Davenport Speedway. Davenport racer Jeff Struck Jr. took home the trophy and the $2,000 top prize.
The 50-lap main started with Dwayne Smith Jr. leading lap one. Struck would take the lead on lap two and hold it through the race’s seven caution flags and restarts. The final caution came with forty-three laps complete. Struck lost the lead to Smith, on lap 46. A lap later, Struck was back on top. Jeff would lead the remainder of the race. Smith took second with Nick Hixson finishing third. Jeremy Gustaf and Justin Skiles were fourth and fifth respectively.
Street Stock heat wins went to Jeff Struck Jr., Dwayne Smith Jr., and Jeremy Gustaf.
Chuck Hanna picked up his fourth Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature win of the season. Chuck drove to the front on lap fifteen, passing early race leader Shawn Mulvany. Once in the lead Hanna would start to pull away from the rest of the field. Matt Ryan charged forward to finish second with Jeremiah Hurst taking third. Andy Nezworski and Shawn Mulvany rounded out the top five.
Chris Zogg captured his first Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature win of the season. Zogg took the lead on lap seven when he took Todd Dykema and Doug Crampton three-wide. Zogg had built up a full straightaway lead as the caution came out with two to go. The yellow would fly three more time as the field tried to get the final two laps in the books. Zogg lost the lead on one of those restarts, but not the one that counted. Chis made it to the checkers in first. Bryce Garnhart took second, followed by Doug Crampton, Brandon Durbin, and Eric Barnes.
The Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod feature was run last, so it was only fitting that their finish was the closest of the evening. Jacob Copley led the feature from the drop of the green flag. On the final lap however, Jared Waterman came flying around on the high side. The pair crossed the line side by side, with the scorers giving the nod to Waterman. The win was his second of the season. Copley was scored in second, followed by Mike Goben, Jarrett Franzen, and Joe Grant, in that order.
The next weekly racing program at the Davenport Speedway will be Friday, August 10th, after the run of the Mississippi Valley Fair. Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks and SportMods, will be racing for track points. We will also have Powder Puff races as an added attraction.
