7.20.19 Enid Speedway Results
By John Rittenoure, ENID, Oklahoma (July 20, 2019) – In a first for the Sooner Late Model Series, a pair of A features were run Saturday night at Enid Speedway and Damian Patocka ended up with his first victory as the overall highest finisher of the night.
The results from two 15-lap features were averaged and Patocka was awarded the series victory and championship points based on his third-place finish in the first feature followed by a second-place run in the second.
In the opening main event points leader Kip Hughes took the lead away from Jason Redman early but suffered mechanical problems on lap 5 to bring out a yellow. Hughes was pushed to the pits and Redman returned to the lead and went the distance for the win over Adam Popp and Patocka in third.
The field was inverted by the finish for the second main and that was a benefit for Hughes who had repaired his mechanical issues and was able to start outside front row. Hughes jumped out front at the start and there would be no mechanical failure this time. Hughes easily won over Patocka who worked his way from the seventh starting position. Patocka was unable to catch Hughes after working his way through the field. Wayne Bush held off first feature winner Redman for third. The fourth-place finish by Redman was enough to give him second in the overall finish.
