7.28.18 American Ethanol Modifieds Results

Lake City, MI (Monday, July 30, 2018) – Over a month has gone by since the first attempt to run the Bilstein Shock Absorbers 30 from Lake City, Michigan’s Merritt Speedway with the American Ethanol Modified Tour Presented by Allstar Performance (AEMODT), but that had no impact on the excitement Saturday night. The first try was set to go on June 23rd, but was halted after Motul Motor Oil and Lubricants Qualifying due to rain. David Mielke set quick time in June with a 14.463 second lap time, and his dominance carried into the final weekend in July.

Mielke started the night as one of the fastest cars again during the evenings hot lap session, from there he went on to win Allstar Performance Heat Race 1 after Joe Rokos pulled the infield after blowing an engine on lap two. QuarterMaster Clutches Heat Race 2 went to Brent Banning, while John McClure won YellowHose.com Heat Race 3 that saw Caleb Kill have a mechanical problem coming out of turn four, collecting Jeff Erickson, Jr. and Andy Galgoci, ending Kill’s night. With 24 cars on the property, and one scratch for the main event, all 23 drivers would start the Bilstein Shock Absorbers 30.

At the drop of the green flag for the night’s main event, McClure and Erickson raced side by side through the first lap and a half, before Mielke took them three wide coming out of turn two, bringing Jacob Poel with him to the front of the field on lap two. The race was slowed directly after that when Clayton Smith lost the race track in turn three, and brought out a caution. Mielke and Poel would drive away from a hard charging Collin Thirlby on the restart, before another caution on lap 22 would stack the field back up.

Thirlby challenged for second on the restart, but Poel held his ground; Thirlby then faced a challenge by a charging Chad Bauer. Bauer managed to slide into the third spot before the field was slowed again. On lap 27, Mike Patrick and Brad Wilson came together on the front stretch, resulting in Patrick hitting the outside wall, and Wilson being stuck on the banking of the race track – the race was halted so track personnel could clear the area.

The three lap shoot-out to the finish proved to be exciting as cars within the top ten jostled for position. Poel elected to start from the outside of row two for the first time in the night, putting Bauer on the bottom of the race track. Neither driver, however, could mount a charge to overtake Mielke, who picked up his first win of the season with the AEMODT.

Next up for the AEMODT is the one and only stop to the Mt. Pleasant Speedway in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on Friday, August 10th. The cars and stars of the AEMODT will race to honor one of their own as part of the Tommie Bauer Memorial, paying $2,519 to win.
