WOODSTOCK, GA – Clint Smith of Senoia, Georgia has many laps around the 3/8ths mile Dixie Speedway but Saturday during the 40 lap ULTIMATE Super Late Model feature the former national touring star may have made 40 of his best. Smith fought off repeated challenges from perennial Dixie favorite Michael Page to capture his first career ULTIMATE Series victory. The victory was worth $4,000.
Page made his way to second on the opening lap and averted disaster on the initial attempt at starting when he and several other cars went spinning into turn 1. It looked like Page was going to be able to take advantage of a lap car pick as he swept by Smith on lap 28 but the lap car came to stop bringing out the caution flag and negating the pass. After that near miss Smith was able to navigate his way to a 0.754 second victory over Page.
Former Series Champion Dennis Franklin charged his way forward from his 23rd starting position to come home 14th and take the PPM Hard Charger Award. Smith had a perfect evening as he also picked up the Davis Diesel Service Fast Time Award with a lap of 15.759 seconds in VP Race Fuels Race for the Pole Qualifying. Jason Croft was fastest in Group B with his lap of 16.061 seconds.
The Ultimate Super Late Model Series Southeast Region is scheduled to be back in action again on Thursday August 16th as the Series will travel to Volunteer Speedway located in Bulls Gap, Tennessee for a $10,000 to win show and on Friday August 17th the Series will return to Crossville Speedway located in Crossville, Tennessee for a event paying $4,000 to win.
