STRONGSTOWN, PA (July 3, 2018) – Marion Center’s Dave Blazavich led all 40-laps to win the 4th Annual Sam Barley Memorial for the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models. David Airgood, Jr., of West Middlesex, won his first DHS checker in the RUSH Crate Late Models while Mahaffey’s Jon Lee won his 3rd 358 Semi Late Feature. Mike Spinneweber won the Super 6 Late Models. Taking repeat wins were John Costa (DM Craig Fabrication & Welding 4 Cylinders) and Duke Davidson (AMSOIL Pure Stocks).
Dave Blazavich added his name to the list of winners of the Sam Barley Memorial with a strong performance Tuesday night. Blazavich took the lead at the drop of the green with Doug Glessner glued to his bumper. Glessner applied pressure until Alex Ferree was able to take over second. A rash of yellows slowed the early pace. Blazavich, Ferree, Glessner and Dan Angelicchio (who started 16th) pulled away from the pack. Lapped traffic added to the excitement allowing all four drivers to dice it out. The caution flew with just three laps to go. On the restart Blazavich took off and led the final three laps to secure the big $4000 paycheck. Ferree was second over Angelicchio, Jackie Boggs, Doug Glessner, Kyle Hardy, Andrew Wylie, Shawn Claar, Michael Lake and Jon Lee. Qualifying heats were won by Ferree, Claar and Lake. Joe Petyak won the B-Main.
Collin Blake led the first three laps of the RUSH Crate Late Models. David Airgood, Jr. passed on lap four to take the lead. Airgood was on rails from there leading the final 17 laps to take his first win at DHS. Burke was second followed by Michael Duritsky, Mike Laughard, Troy Shields, Clate Copeman, Brandon Lott, Paul Ivory, Chris Frank and Joe Moyer. Copeman and Duritsky were the heat winners.
In the 358 Semi Late feature Josh Jacoby dashed into the lead at start. Jacoby led three laps before Jon Lee made what would be the winning pass. Lee sailed off to his third straight win. Jacoby finished second over Robert Cossell, Jeff Weakland, Nick Loffredo, Bryan Benton, Ryan Caldwell, Caleb Vesconi, Todd English and Vern Ward. Jacoby and Lee were the heat winners.
Jack Theys win streak ended after four straight in the DM Craig Fabrication & Welding 4 Cylinders because he didn’t have a ride. It was Johnstown’s John Costa in victory lane for the second time this season. Costa took the lead from Bill Eckenrode on lap three. Costa, Kolton Wagner, Chuck Dizzle and Eckenrode put on a show as the four fought for the lead. One lap saw the drivers five wide out of turn four. Cost was followed by Chuck Dizzle, Kolton Wagner, Bill Eckenrode, Brady Miller, David Needham, Skyler Eckenrode, Matt Weltz, Cory Price, Logan Graham and Todd Davis. Heats were won by Wagner and Robert Lydic.
Duke Davidson, of Mahaffey, won his fourth AMSOIL Pure Stock feature of the season. Davidson led all 15 laps but most of it was a four car battle royal. Davidson, Brad Benton, Amber Mills and Ron Benton all ran nose to tail before Davidson took the victory. Ron Benton was second over Amber Mills, Brad Benton and Larry Brewer. Davidson won the lone heat.
Mike Spinneweber won for the first time this season in the 15-lap Super 6 feature. Mike took the lead from Frank McFeaters and held off heat winner Levi Spinneweber, Dave Blazavich, Cole Petrelle and Ed Dunkel.
In the Enduro Paul Crynock III beat Jeremy Claar and James Gottschalk, Jr. for the win.
