Three-Time and defending RUSH Touring Series Champion Jeremy Wonderling does not typically find himself struggling to find success at most tracks. Pittsburgh’s Monster Half-Mile has evaded “Mr. Excitement” until tonight where after many attempts, Wonderling found victory lane. 30 Rohrich Automotive RUSH Late Model drivers spanning six different states competed in the prestigious 30-lap event. Five additional divisions were on hand to entertain friends and family abroad as blue skies and sunshine welcomed race fans to the facility.
In the ninth running of the Herb Scott Memorial for the RUSH Dirt Late Model Series, Jeremy Wonderling wasted no time in his pursuit to the front. Starting fourth, Wonderling was able to work his way to second, passing Garrett Paugh for third on lap one and Kyle Lukon on lap three. Lukon would then contact the outside backstretch wall to allow Kyle Hardy to advance to third.
Race leader Mike Norris seemed to be the heavy favorite until momentum was lost on lap five of the 30-lap feature event. mechanical failure for the Sarver native took him out of contention as he brought out the first caution of the race. Wonderling took advantage of his inheritance on the restart and stretched out his lead. Lukon would make a quick attempt to regain the second position, battling with Hardy until a lap nine caution would place the race on hold. A four-car pile-up involving Joe Squatriglia, Travis Justice, John Boring, and Dave Goble would bring out a precautionary red flag for safety purposes. Prior to the wreck, ninth starting Joe Martin quickly worked his way to the fourth position. A strong restart from Martin would place him in a battle for second with Kyle Hardy. The two drivers danced for four laps behind leader Jeremy Wonderling until another heavy accident would bring the field to a standstill on lap thirteen. Drivers Zach Morrow and Mike Reft got tangled together on the backstretch, making a heavy impact on the inside wall. Both drivers were uninjured. Off the impending restart, more carnage ensued as a pinball-like sequence took place on the backstretch, causing Zach Kane to drive into a sideways Jake Gunn, bringing out the third and final red flag of the race. Both Kane and Gunn were unharmed. Garrett Paugh made the most of the restart, jumping from fifth to third and challenging Kyle Hardy for second. Wonderling further extended his lead as many positions through the top ten were strongly contested through the final ten laps. However, no contest was had for Jeremy Wonderling as he crossed the line over two and a half seconds ahead of second-place finisher Kyle Hardy. Joe Martin held on for third. Zach Gunn quietly worked his way to fourth and the 2020 Herb Scott Memorial race winner Garrett Paugh rounded out the top five.

Daryl Charlier started the night off in tremendous fashion by setting a new track record with a time of 18.652. Joe Martin owned the previous record of 18.829 which was set only one month earlier on June 5th. Three heat races were held for the 30 competitors on hand with the top two cars going to the Sunoco Dash and the top six advancing to the main event. The top three
qualifiers of Daryl Charlier, Michael Norris, and Garret Paugh would win their respective heat races. Jeremy Wonderling, Kyle Lukon, and Kyle Hardy would finish second and punch their ticket to the dash. Michael Norris would go on to win the Sunoco Dash and claim the first starting position in the Herb Scott Memorial. The last chance qualifier would prove to be heartbreaking for Philip Bubeck. After leading the first nine laps, a lap nine restart would go wrong for Bubeck as he spun while trying to fend off eventual race winner Zach Morrow. Bubeck, a first-year driver in the RUSH Late Models, was poised to win his first race in RUSH competition. The top six cars would advance to the Herb Scott Memorial. Bubeck would finish seventh.
Justin Shea was able to avoid apparent disaster on lap one of the fifteen lap RUSH Sportsman Modified Series Feature event to claim his second win of the season. Preston Cope tangled with Shae on the front stretch on the very first lap, causing Shae to spin in front of the field. Shae would regain control of the car without any damage. However, the same could not be said for
drivers Chas Wolbert, Kole Holden, Chelsie Kriegisch. The three would be forced to retire after making contact in their attempts to avoid the spinning Justin Shae. Preston Cope would be sent to the rear of the field and charged with the caution. Shea would be granted his second starting position. Once resumed, Tony Tatgenhorst would extend his lead over Shea only temporarily.
Third place finisher Ayden Cipriano had a front-row seat as he watched Shea chip away at Tatgenhorst’s lead and make the pass for the lead on lap eleven. Shea would lead the remaining four laps. Chelsie Kriegish and Justin Shae would win their respective heat races.

In the Priority Equipment Rental Hobby Stocks, Cody Koteles would go on to win his first victory of 2021 at PPMS. Cody carried the momentum over from his heat race victory earlier in the evening. Chloie Jones would start first and take off with the early advantage. From the seventh position, Koteles forced his way into third within one lap. Stephen Shelpman, winner of heat
race two, followed Koteles to the front from his 12th position starting spot. The rivalry between both Koteles and Shelpman would be on display as they quickly caught veteran Frank Magill to make a three-car battle for second. Koteles could not be denied and advanced to the second position. Magill and Shelpman continued to do battle for the third position, with Shelpman
gaining the advantage after all. Koteles would soon catch and apply pressure to leader Chloie Jones. Unfortunately for Chloie, a mistake made room for Koteles to make the inside pass in turn four of lap seven. Strong battles for position throughout the field were evident in the remaining laps. Shelpman would get by Jones on her outside on lap eleven, though performance issues became evident on Shelpman’s car. Shelpman could not attempt to challenge for the win. Koteles led eight laps of the 15-lap race, while Ben Anton finished in the five spot after starting twentieth.

The Admar Penn Ohio Pro Stocks would compete in a 15-lap feature event with no heat race due to time constraints. Six cars were on-hand competing for Penn-Ohio Pro Stock Weekly Series points. Brian Hutchko proved to be the class of the field, winning his respective feature by nearly seven seconds. Former feature winner Mike Harris had his hands full with Nick Kochuba in a spirited battle for the runner-up spot. Kocuba threw everything but the kitchen sink at Harris to claim second, but would settle for a third-place finish.

In the Crawford Auto Repair Open 4 Cylinders, April Tennant would make her 2021 debut a successful one; Piloting her husbands’ familiar blue and yellow car to victory lane. Tennant would not have it easy with a seventh-place starting spot, but she found herself leading the race after three laps. April would lead the remainder of the 8-lap feature event. A lap three caution would prove to be troublesome for husband Bill Tennant, driving an unfamiliar black car numbered 10. Bill would shuffle back to fifth but work his way back to third by the end of the 8-lap race. Notably, Lucas Weaver had an impressive second-place run. Weaver was smooth and consistent each lap as he kept pace with the eventual race winner.

The All Ways Safe Flagging and Traffic Control Young Guns were able to pull their biggest field of the season with an impressive eight-car field for an 8-lap feature. Logan Koteles continued his dominating ways, but not without a challenge. Cameron Lambert and Koteles would proceed to battle for the first two laps. Former feature winner Cameron Hollister would come from the
eighth and final starting spot to make it a three-car battle on lap three. Hollister would pass Lambert for second on the following lap. A flat tire would hamper Lambert’s efforts as he fell to sixth. Sadie Snatchko and Travis Clark made their competitive racing debuts with ultimately positive results. Clark would advance from seventh to finish third whereas Snatchko would
advance two positions from sixth to fourth. Drivers Emmie Laboon and Kiersten Chernik would be disqualified early in the race after making contact with one another. There is no contact allowed in the Young Guns division.
