7.3.21 Red Clay Late Model Series Results
The Red Clay Series second night of the weekend took the series to Sugar Creek Raceway. We had 25 cars sign-in for the Saturday night show.
With the field split in two groups Rod Roberts sat fast time in group A and Booger Brooks set fast time in group B and overall.
Heat 1 had Rod Roberts and Jake Green on the front row. Jake Green suffered mechanical issues and did not finish the heat. Crandall Turner made best of the heat race and picked up the win.
Heat 2 saw Booger Brooks and Caden Walston on the front row. Brooks continued his performance from Friday night and picked up another heat win.
The front row for heat 3 was series regular Spencer Singleton and young gun Colton Berrong. Tucker Anderson picked up the win from the second row, giving him his first Red Clay Series heat win.
Crandall Turner and Booger Brooks brought the field to the green flag. The field had a complete restart after a couple of cars got together in turn one. On the second attempt Brooks went right back to work, taking the lead and leading the field on a 22 green flap stretch. The rest of the field raced 2 and sometimes 3 wide as some of the racers braved the top side fighting for positions. Even through lapped traffic Brooks went unchallenged. On lap 22 the caution came out for Johnny Guilzia as h rolled to a stop on the top of the back stretch. With eight laps remaining the drivers were taking more chances and going four wide off of turn two on the restart. Jacob Parris ultimately paid the price for being in the middle of the four wide. His car spun into the infield; Parris pulled off after suffering damage that would not allow him to finish. On the next restart the field went green to complete the race, Brooks continued his winning ways as he went flag to flag to win another Red Clay Series race. Sawyer Tinker, Crandall, Turner, Dustin Golden and Michael Barnett rounded out the top 5.
