7.5.19 Sooner Late Models Results

By John Rittenoure – LONGDALE, Okla. (July 5, 2019) – Dusty Leonard picked up his second victory of the season in the NCRA vs Sooner Late Model Series main event Friday at Longdale Speedway.

Leonard, who won his first NCRA vs. Sooner Late Model Series event in May at 81 Speedway, raced into the lead with seven laps remaining and raced to victory in the opening day of the 5th annual America Proud event.

Sooner Late Model Series defending champion Kip Hughes drove off the pole into the early lead and set the pace for the first 15 laps. Following a lap 16 restart Travis Johnson, who worked his way from a seventh starting position, got around Hughes for the lead. However his lead did not last long. Leonard got past Hughes and Johnson for the lead on lap 18. Hughes, who was running third, moved back into second in the closing laps leaving Johnson with third. Delbert Smith and Daniel Smith rounded out the top five.
