7.7.18 Enid Speedway Results

By John Rittenoure – ENID, Okla. (July 7, 2018) – Fireworks, vintage race cars, and four new feature winners entertained a near capacity crowd at Enid Speedway on Saturday.
Over a dozen vintage race cars were on display in front of the grandstand with many of them running a hot lap session at intermission. That was followed by a fireworks display celebrating the July 4 weekend.
On the race track, new winners emerged in four classes of feature action.
The Sooner Late Model Series were on hand for the third time this season and the 25-lap feature got underway with defending series champion Jason Redman jumping out to an early lead over Adam Popp. Redman cruised out front for the first 13 laps then suddenly begin slowing. Popp pulled alongside in turn two of lap 14 and took away the lead entering turn three. Redman pulled to the infield and Popp went on to record his first Sooner Series win. Mark Harrison charged into second during the lead change and Kansas driver Chris Kratzer was third.
It was clear sailing for Wichita driver Tanner Mullens in the Sooner Modified division. Mullen started on the pole due to his points average and wasted little time racing to an easy victory. Cole Traugott and Dustin Choate finished a distant second and third.
Brandon Gritz kept ninth starting Mark Smith behind him to win his first Sport Modified feature. Gitz took the early lead with Daniel Riley in second. However, Smith was on the move and drove around Riley for second on lap four. Smith closed in on Gitz but could not mount a challenge and finished second. Seventh starting Trevin King was third.
Brad Costello came from mid-pack of the 23-car starting field to win the Pure Stock main event. Tyson Ashlock raced out front from the second row at the start only to give way to Marvin Allen on lap four. Costello, who started 12th, quickly worked his way toward the front and was in second on lap 4. On lap six Costello challenged for the lead took over for good on lap 7. Costello went on to victory with Allen holding on to second. Justin McBride worked his way to third at the finish.

Racing returns to Enid Speedway on August 11 with Sooner Late Models, Sooner Modifieds, Sport Mods and Pure Stocks racing at 7 p.m.
