8.1.15 Port Royal Speedway Results
Port Royal – Logan Wagner of Harrisonville scored his first ever Central Pa 410 sprint car win on Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, holding off Lucas Wolfe for the $3,200 victory.
In the extra distance super late model main, Tim Smith Jr. of Long Hollow scored the victory, taking the lead from Trent Brenneman early to pull away in the contest.
And in the 305 sprint main, Jeff Miller Jr. scored his third win of the season in the division while Jason Davis scored victory in the xtreme stock championship.
Davey Sammons took the lead at the start of the 25-lap 410 sprint main with Ryan Taylor running second on the second lap.
Logan Wagner started third in the field and drove by Taylor for second on the fourth lap before going to work on Sammons.
Wagner hounded leader Sammons for the next five laps as the pair both ran the high cushion until he was finally able to blast to Sammons’ outside for the lead coming off of turn four.
Wagner did his best to keep a steady gait once in control, working through thick packs of lapped cars as the race worked toward the midway point.
It was then that point leader Lucas Wolfe, who started eighth, broke into the top five and with 12 laps to go, Wolfe was up to third.
Two laps later Wolfe darted around Sammons for second but before he could start erasing Wagner’s advantage, the races only caution appeared with 10 laps to go.
With lapped cars separating the leaders, Wolfe opened up a bit of breathing room over Wolfe when action resumed but Wolfe was quickly back into contention with five laps to go, just as Wagner again entered the backmarkers.
Wolfe may have had a chance late in the event until Wagner made a daring move to hold onto his coveted first Port Royal win by narrowly squeezing between the outside wall and the Ed Aikin to put him a lap down with two laps to go.
That maneuver by Wagner sealed the deal for the second-generation driver who grew up watching the races at Port Royal from the old covered grandstand and playing in the dirt at the track while his dad Mike raced.
Wolfe crossed the line 1.215 seconds behind in second followed by Sammons, elder Wagner patriarch Mike and Taylor.
Sixth through 10th went to Greg Hodnett, Kevin Nouse, Brent Marks, Lance Dewease and Doug Esh.
Heats for the 29 cars in action went to Sammons, Logan Wagner and Dylan Cisney with Brock Zearfoss taking the consolation.
Two failed starts of the 25-lap super late model main that scattered numerous cars on both occasions finally gave way to a first lap with Andrew Yoder leading.
Fifth starter Trent Brenneman took the lead from Yoder on the second tour just before a yellow flag slowed the pace.
Tim Smith Jr. lined up third for the restart and when green reappeared he went to work and motored by both cars in front of him to take command of the field.
And once at the front, there was no catching him, as he took the victory by a margin of 5.724 seconds.
Mitch Hack got by Brenneman on the 14th tour but failed to close on the leader.
Brenneman settled for third followed by Bryan Bernheisel and Mike Lupfer.
Sixth through 10th went to Andy Haus, Derrick Casner, Scott Flickinger, Steve Stitt and Mike Mort.
Heats went to Brenneman and Bernheisel.
Tom Worrick led the first three laps of the 18-lap 305 sprint main before Zach Newlin got the lead but ninth starter Bill Jones Jr. had designs on the top spot and took control on the ninth tour.
Miller started 11th in the field and blasted through the pack to be up to second for a restart with two laps to go.
And that proved to be the end of Jones’ race for the victory as Miller took the lead on the final lap as he shot off of the second turn.
Jones was second followed by Tyler Reeser, Newlin and Scott Ellerman.
Heats for the 29-car field went to Reeser, Jones, Ellerman and Reed Thompson with the consolation being claimed by Ron Aurand.
Jen Zook controlled the first eight laps of the xtreme stock championship event before Corey Kepner took over.
But shortly after getting the lead, he and Jason Zook tangled on the frontchute while racing for control, handing the lead to Bill Powell.
Powell assumed the top spot but with six laps to go Jason Davis became the fourth and final leader to pick up the win.
Powell was second at the finish followed by Walt Peters, Tyler Amtower and early leader Jen Zook.
