RACE RECAP: Madison, AL—The Southern All Stars Dirt Series made it’s first visit to Talladega Short Track, a track that has hosted a SAS event for the 37 years the series has been racing. And the track was in great shape for the 40 drivers that signed in for the prestigious race.

Tyler Millwood of Kingston, GA picked up his biggest win of his career Saturday night in the 60 lap feature that had some great talent in the 25 car field. Starting on the outside front row next to fastest qualifier Talladega’s Josh Adkins in Heat Race #1, Millwood picked up the 10 lap win and assured him the pole for the feature. Cruise with the Champions Rookie of the Year frontrunner Sam Seawright of Ft. Payne, AL was fastest qualifier for Group 2 and ECM winner Todd Morrow of East Ridge, TN was outside him for Heat Race #2 and Morrow picked up the win. So we had Millwood and Morrow leading the field to the green.

Millwood jumped out to a quick lead at the start Morrow and Dillon Tidmore of Gadsden, AL would wage a battle for the 2nd position while chasing down Millwood and battling lapped traffic. Tidmore fought his way to finish second. Rounding out the top 5 was Jack Hale from Gadsden, AL and Dawsonville, GA driver Donald McIntosh.

The Southern All Stars travels to I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, TN for the 3rd Annual Dirt Slingers Classic Saturday, August 22nd.

RACE TIDBITS: It has been over 5 years since the Southern All Stars has inducted new members into their Hall of Fame. Saturday night we welcome a new class and will continue to add new members each year.
This years inducted on the dirt side was “The Chattanooga Flash” Ronnie Johnson, “Cat Daddy” Clint Smith, Promoters “Preacher” Lynn Phillips and Alfred Gurley of Talladega Short Track, Mickey and Mike Swims of Dixie and Rome Speedways and Flagman Clyde Haynes. On the asphalt side, Co-Owner Ben David Atkinson, Mike Harmon, Jerry Goodwin and series sponsor Norm Basden.

Not only were Ronnie and Clint in attendance to pick up their awards, they brought their hotrods to Talladega and raced their way into the field. Ronnie started 17th and Clint 21st. Great job guys.

Also in attendance was Charles “Red” Farmer and was invited to be part of the Goodwin family when accepting Jerry’s award. The Talladega crowd showed him their love when he was introduced as to being the newest member of the 2021 class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. An award that is long overdue and he thanked everyone for their votes. He also announced he will be racing this Saturday night in the Jerry Goodwin Memorial at TST.

Tough luck for the winner of the first two Governors Cup Saturday night. Villa Rica, GA Michael page slowed and stopped on the front straight during the 4 wide salute to the fans and had to be pushed to the pits. His crew worked feverishly to get the 18X to fire but when the green flag waved he was out of the race.
