8.18.23 Bedford Speedway Results

It was extra distances for everyone Friday at Bedford in the event billed as the Muss Weyant 100 unfolded. Brian Weyandt Jr rallied late to take the 30 lap Semi Late event, a move which solidified his point lead in the class with only one more point race to go. Mike Altobelli Jr was in regular form as he cruised to the EMod win in that 25 lapper. Jason Haggerty fought off serious challenges the whole distance to score the 25 lap Pure Stock victory before Wayne Brenize closed the evening with another 4 Cylinder win.

The Semi Late event started off a bit rough as several cars piled up at the green, eliminating recent winner Dave Brown. On the next try, Bill Replogle shot into the lead but he was quickly chased down by John Miller. After several laps of side by side racing, Miller edged by for the lead on lap 7. Replogle did not surrender and was all over Miller for the next few laps until Rick Potter joined in and took second.

Potter moved in on the leader and actually got by for the lead, a move which was negated when the yellow flew on lap 24 when Replogle bounced into the turn one wall. But at that time, Potter suddenly pulled off further jumbling the running order. Miller, who had fended off challenges the entire distance, suddenly had Brian Weyandt Jr on his tail.

Weyandt instantly applied pressure and grabbed the lead a lap later, holding the spot to the finish. Miller fell a spot further on lap 27 as Nick Bechtel, who had started at the rear after the initial start fracas, secured the second spot on lap 27. Bechtel was unable to get Weyandt as he finished second at the line, followed by Miller, Greg Hainsey and Bob Jay. Kyle Deneen and Kyle Weyandt won the heats.

In a bit of irony, the event was the 888th event ever staged at the historic oval and featured a car number 88 on the stage after the first feature.

Brandon Hoover was the early EMod leader, but Mike Altobelli was on a charge. He rushed from his 7th starting spot to second by lap 4 and blew into the lead a lap later. Glen Elliott got by Hoover a lap after that for second but Altobelli was long gone. Drake Troutman got by Hoover for third and briefly challenged Elliott but as the laps wound down found himself under fire from a resurgent Hoover for that spot until he fell back in the waning laps.

At the finish it was Altobelli, followed by Elliott, Troutman, Donnie Farlling and Jacob Marker. Elliott and Hoover won the heats.

Jason Haggerty was the early Pure Stock leader but it was the usual mob at the front in pursuit. Haggerty held off the joint advances from Kyle Beckett and Dalton Ritchey lap after lap until Charlie Clise joined in by lap 6. Clise took second on lap 9 and it became a two car duel at the front for the duration. Clise was all over Haggerty who gamely hung on lap after lap. Drama increased when Barry Clark bounced off the wall on lap 23, setting up a two lap dash to the checkered, but Haggerty held on for the win.

Clise took second ahead of Ritchey who gamefully held off a late challenge from Denver Dishong. Rookie Dominic Weyandt scored a career best fifth. Clise and Chubby Childers won the heats.

Infrequent visitor Wayne Brenize blasted from 4th to lead the first 4 Cylinder lap and never looked back. Shawn Smith came from deep in the field to secure second early but never challenged Brenize. Derek Long took third ahead of Tom Brady and Isaac Kormanski. Brenize and Josh Corbin won the heats.
