ABBOTTSTOWN, PA – August 19, 2017 – One thing can be said about Glenndon Forsythe’s first career All-Star Circuit of Champions win at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night. He earned it.
Forsythe joined Cory Haas on the front row of the 30-lap $5,000 to win feature by virtue of winning their respective dashes. Haas led the first lap, but Forsythe led the rest, holding several challengers through heavy lapped traffic, including a breathtaking move through three lapped cars to hold off Haas and Danny Dietrich through turns and four of lap 28.
“That’s Lincoln. If you race enough green flag laps here, you’re going to get to lapped traffic,” said a jubilant Forsythe in victory lane, “I need to get better at it, but I did enough to stay out front, and I still can’t believe we’re here tonight.”
The race-saving move came just before a caution for a stopped Tim Wagaman in turn four of lap 29, setting up a green-white-checkered finish. On the subsequent restart, Dietrich spun in turn two while trying to slide under Haas for second, with All-Star points leader Chad Kemenah assuming for the final restart.
“I saw the scoreboard there with Cory (Haas) and Danny (Dietrich)there. Cory had been there the whole race, so he wasn’t slackin’, and I was happy to see that yellow come out. I was terrible in lapped traffic, and I was falling out of the seat and needed break. I got the break when I needed it,” said Forsythe, “I can’t be happier for (car owner) Norm Wisner and this whole team. Sponsor Dynatech Controls had its company picnic out in the parking lot this afternoon, so I’m happy for that.”
Kemenah did catch Haas for second on the final restart when Haas slid high trying to get by Forsythe for the race lead and crossed a close second, with Haas settling for third, Freddie Rahmer fourth, and Matt Campbell fifth.
Sixth through tenth were 13th-starting Alan Krimes, Tim Shaffer, 18th-starting Robbie Kendall, Brian Montieth (who came from the rear after an early-race spin), and 21st-starting Anthony Macri.
Sprint heats were won by Shaffer, Ryan Smith, Dietrich, and Kemenah, with Chad Trout winning the B-Main. A pair of dashes were won by Haas and Forsythe, and fast time in time trials over the 40-car All Star Sprint field was set by Caleb Helms with a 1-lap time of 13.401-seconds (100.739 MPH).
Littlestown’s Mason Chaney made a last-turn pass on Lucas Montgomery and led the final 100 yards to score his third Lincoln win of the year and the fourth of his Lincoln career in the 20-lap Central PA Legends feature,
Chaney, who was credited with a win in his heat despite crossing backwards after tangling with Harlon Leppo at the end, started third. Scott Smith led the first four laps before yielding to fifth-starting Montgomery, who led until the final turn.
Chaney, who spun but kept going when Leppo again made contact with him in turns three and four of lap 13, assumed second for the restart and dogged Montgomery the rest of the way.
The race for the lead became a three-car battle when Hayden Pascoe joined the chase with four laps to go.
Chaney drove under Montgomery on the final turn to the checkered, with Montgomery settling for second and Pascoe third. 15-starting Bob Stough came on late to finish fourth, with Bill Diehl fifth.
Heats for the 28 Central PA Legends were won by Travis Perry, Smith, and Leppo, with Zachary Settle winning the consolation.
Next Saturday, August 26th, it will be the rescheduled McSherrystown Moose Lodge #720 Night and the second of two York County Racing Club Nights on the year. The 410 Sprints will be joined by the 358 Sprints in a “K1 RaceGear 358 Sprint Summer Series” event and the Central PA Legends. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with racing action to get underway at 7:30 p.m
