8.23.19 Dacotah Speedway Results
After a season of rain outs, the racing action at Dacotah Speedway wrapped up on Friday, August 23rd with Championship Night and Fan Appreciation Night. Despite the rain, it was a season full of exciting, side by side racing, first time winners and the occasional roll over. Every position and every point mattered as the checkered flag waved for the final time in 2019.
SCHUH EARNS FIRST CAREER SPORT COMPACT WIN
Pole sitter, Paul Schuh raced side by side with points leader, Stan Thompson in the IMCA Sport Compact feature. Schuh quickly cleared Thompson for the lead as Thompson felt pressure from behind from the Craig Kastner. With three laps remaining, Kastner passed Thompson for second and quickly reeled in the leader, Schuh. As the white flag waved, they raced side by side for the feature win. When the checkered flag waved, Paul Schuh held off Craig Kastner for his first career IMCA Sport Compact feature win. Stan Thompson, clinched his first track championship with a solid third place finish. Braydee Hanson finished fourth as Ken Sandberg made a last lap pass to finish fifth over Andy Reed.
GARTNER ENDS SEASON WITH IMPRESSIVE FIFTH FEATURE VICTORY
Lance Jangula led early in the Hobby Stock feature. Early cautions allowed Chris Welk to grab the lead from Jangula, bringing John Gartner Jr with him. As Jangula started to fade through the field, he lost positions to Dylan Sandberg, Seth Howe-Kellar and Nathan Messer. Gartner was all over Welk’s rear bumper. As they raced for the win, it allowed third place Dylan Sandberg to close in on the leaders. With only a handful of laps remaining, it was a thrilling three car battle for the win. Diving down low, John Gartner Jr pulled along side Welk for the lead with two laps to go. They raced side by side until Gartner cleared Welk with one lap to go. John Gartner Jr crossed the finish line first over Chris Welk Jr. Dylan Sandberg settled for third while Nathan Mundahl finished fourth ahead of Seth Howe Kellar. A.J. Davenport, who finished sixth, won his first track championship.
WIEST CAPTURES FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON
Moorhead, Minnesota’s Brody Carlsrud led the field to the green flag in the INEX Legends feature. Carlsrud led early until defending track champion Donavin Wiest powered by on lap three. However, Carlsrud battled back and they raced side by side for the lead. Tight racing allowed Andrew Jochim and points leader Drew Papke to join the battle. As Wiest cleared Carlsrud, it was a three car battle for second between Carlsrud, Papke and Jochim. As the laps wound down, Papke shuffled into the second position and challenged Wiest for the win. When the white flag waved, Papke gave it all he had as he dove low under Wiest but slid up the track which allowed Wiest to power through the corner. When the checkered flag waved, Donavin Wiest picked up his first victory of the season. Drew Papke just narrowly edged Andrew Jochim for second at the finish line. Brody Carlsrud finished fourth while Preston Martin rounded out the top five. Papke’s top five wrapped up his first track championship in the INEX Legends.
CARTER GOES FROM LAST TO FIRST IN EXCITING FEATURE WIN
After a complete restart in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, defending track champion, Zach Frederick grabbed the early lead.Frederick pulled away as Barrett Berg and Kyle Anderson raced hard for second. Jonny Carter, who started in the rear of the field for causing an early caution quickly cracked the top five and make it a three car battle for second with six laps to go. While racing hard, Berg got loose and spun on his own. A caution would reset the field and on the restart, Carter raced side by side for the win with Frederick. With two laps to go, Carter slipped by Frederick and pulled away to win his fifth feature victory of the season at Dacotah Speedway. Zach Frederick, who led much of the feature, had to settle for second. Kyle Anderson finish third while points leader John Weber held off Shawn Volk for fourth. Weber’s top five finish clinched his first ever track championship.
ARNESON SURVIVES LATE RACE CAUTION TO TAKE HOME TRI-CITY WIN
Dacotah Speedway hosted Night 5 of the Tri-City IMCA Modified Series. Outside pole sitter, Casey Arneson, quickly passed pole sitter Jeremy Keller when the green flag waved. However, cautions came early and often throughout the feature. After the sixth early caution, Arneson quickly pulled away as Tom Berry and Austin Arneson raced for second. Casey Arneson’s large led disappeared as he started to catch lapped traffic. The slower traffic allowed Berry and Austin Arneson to catch him and they raced four wide in lapped traffic before a late race caution reset the field. On the final restart, Casey Arneson pulled away to win the $1000 feature. Track champion, Tom Berry Jr finished second while Marlyn Seidler crossed the finish line in third. Shawn Strand finished fourth ahead of fifth place Travis Tooley.
