8.24.18 Clinton County Speedway Results
Lock Haven, PA- Racing used to be regularly done this way. A smooth wet tacky race track. A small cushion kept run in. Multiple grooves of racing all night long. Then some one changed the program and said track surfaces have to be dry slick to produce great racing. Not at Clinton County Motor Speedway on Strouse Electric Night.
The Bellefonte, PA electrical contractor presented the nights racing. Strouse Electric specializes in new wiring construction, repairs and commercial projects. The company recently installed new lights on the Clinton County Motor Speedway oval.
The super late models were flying on the wide 3/8th raceway Friday August 24. In fact, all the divisions were. When action was through at 10: 15 pm, Coleby Frye scored the super late model main. Sean McAndrew came out on top of the 270 micro sprints and AY Schilling returned to the winners circle during pro stock action. All three started on the pole but each event was scary fast and very exciting.
Frye blasted into the lead with Robby Black and Dylan Yoder in hot pursuit. Frye battled through heavy lapped traffic with the field bearing down on his back bumper. Cars ahead, racing for position, made passing nearly impossible allowing all comers a shot at the rapid running driver from Dover, PA. Frye withstood all challenges and went on to record the win. Dylan Yoder finished second with Mike Lupfer third. Black was fourth with Gene Knaub fifth. Completing the top ten were Dave Brouse, Jr., Jim Yoder, Mike Smith, Jeremy Ohl and Nick Loffredo. Heat races for the 22 car field were won by Travis Stickley, Dylan Yoder, Coleby Frye and Matt Cochran.
Frye and the fans thoroughly enjoyed the late model action. Frye said following the race, “ This is one of my favorite places to come. I live three hours from here but I still try to come here every time I can. The track was tacky and fast and you could run any groove. I like it here. “
Sean McAndrew of Apollo, PA returned to competition with fresh equipment and physically rested. The results showed. McAndrew romped to the 270 micro sprint feature win with standing challenges of the always tough Ross Perchak who finished second. Troy Whitesel was third with Mason Peters fourth. Jeff Weaver was fifth. Sixth through tenth were Gary Keister, Bobby Sanso, Shaun Musser, Kyler Stahl and John Roberts. Perchak, McAndrew, Keister and Whitesel won heat races. There were 26 cars.
A Y Schilling won the pro stock feature holding off Brad Myers over the final five laps. Myers started eighth and moved into second on lap ten after chasing Schilling and Danny Jensen who faded late in the feature. Johnny Bouse came from ninth starting spot to finish third. Noah Jensen and Tommy Dawson completed the top five. Sixth through tenth were Jensen, Al Rishel, Rich Fye, Chris Snyder and John Zajac. Heat races went to Bouse and Dawson. There were 17 cars.
Action continues Friday August 31 when the limited late models are joined by the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series plus the 600 and 270 micro sprints. Gates open at 5pm with racing set to start at 7:30.
Officials also announced the rescheduling of two previously rained out Memorial events. The Lenny Stroud Jr Memorial race is now set for September 7. The CW “Skip” Smith Memorial will be made up September 14. More details will be forthcoming.
