8.25.18 Dog Hollow Speedway Results

STRONGSTOWN, PA (August 25, 2018) – The final points night saw four of the 2018 Champions come home with the checkered flag on Saturday night. 113 cars filled the pits making for some great racing. Marion Center’s Dave Blazavich won his second straight in the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Lates for his third straight points championship. In the 358 Semi Lates Robert Cossell pulled off his second win in taking the crown while Joe Moyer won the RUSH Crate Late Models for the first time this season and also taking the championship. Levi Spinneweber won his third of the season to wrap his championship season. Other winners were Mt. Union’s Brad Beatty (DM Craig Fabrication & Welding Service 4 Cylinders, Lance Marshall won the Rookie 4C and Brad Benton won his second straight in the AMSOIL Pure Stocks. The E-Mods made their third appearance and it was Josh Ferry, of Cochranton, in victory lane.

Brad Benton, of Duncansville, may have led every lap, but he had his hands full all 15 of them. Points champ Duke Davidson gave him his first challenge. Davidson and Benton ran side by side cleanly until Davidson made a rare spin on lap 11 sending him to the tail. This moved Amber Mills into the runner up spot. Mills then gave Benton a mirror full as the pair put on a show with Benton winning for the third time this season. Mills was second followed by Anthony Monteparte, Davidson and Marc Whetstone, Sr. The heats were won by Mills and Monteparte.

Chad Helman took command at the start of the 358 Semi Late feature. Helman’s lead ended when Jarid Ivory powered by on lap four. Ivory looked to be on his way to victory by Robert Cossell had other ideas. Cossell worked on Ivory for eleven laps setting a torrid pace. Cossell was able to sneak past to lead the final three laps for the win. Ivory was second over Helman, John Wayne Weaver and Josh Whetstone. Ivory and Weaver were the heat winners.

The Super 6 Late Models was a good battle between Levi Spinneweber and Frank McFeaters. Levi was out front for the first eight laps before McFeaters slipped by. He led four laps before Spinneweber found some extra power to retake the lead and go on for the win. McFeaters, Mike Spinneweber, Jim Thomson and John Eckenrod rounded out the top five. Heats went to Levi Spinneweber and Jim Thompson.

The Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models saw Buffalo, NY invader Zack Carley showing the way. Carley, making his first DHS start, took off as the green flew. Carley built up a slight lead over DJ Troutman. Fourth starting Dave Blazavich took over the bridesmaid spot on lap six. Carley continued to lead as they encountered lapped traffic. The young man never faltered as Blazavich began closing the gap. Blazavich maneuvered past Carley on lap 19 and sped away to his division leading fifth win. Carley held on for second over Clate Copeman, DJ Troutman, Shawn Claar, Andrew Wylie (from 20th), Matt Sponaugle, Tom Decker III, Joe Petyak and John Wayne Weaver. Qualifying heats went to Claar, Carley and Kirk Baker.

Up next was the 25-lap E-Mod feature. Josh Ferry wasted no time taking the lead at the start. Ferry had challenges from Shawn Shingledecker until Drake Troutman took up chase. The teenager looked fast but Ferry was up to the challenge and began to pull away. Meanwhile Troutman had his hands full with Mike Kinney. Kinney was finally able to get by Troutman on lap 19. He then set sail to try and real in Ferry and that he did. Kinney closed in the final two laps but ran out of time settling for second. Behind Ferry and Kinney were Troutman, Joe Pluta, Carl McKinney, Bill Pluta, Jr., Bruce Dreistadt, Sam Reeder, Shawn Shingledecker and Ken Summers. Ferry and Shingledecker were heat winners.

Marino Angelicchio took off from his pole start in the RUSH Crate Late Models. Angelicchio pulled away from the pack with his smooth driving and it looked like we would have another first time winners. Last week’s winner Colin Casale chased the high flying teenager the first eight laps. It was then Joe Moyer passing him. Moyer was finally able to close in on Angelicchio the last five laps. The two raced side by side with neither driver giving an inch in a clean battle. Moyer assumed the top spot the final two laps racing off to his first win of the season. His last win was exactly one year ago to the date. Angelicchio looked to finish second but came up 12lbs light at the scales. This gave the runner up spot to Clate Copeman over Casale, Troy Shields, Tim Snare, Jr., Mike Ott, Brandon Lott, Paul Ivory and Ryan Frazee. Frazee and Moyer were the heat winners.

Twenty-seven of the thirty cars made the start of the 12-lap DM Craig Fabrication & Welding Service 4 Cylinder Feature. Lap one was led by Cody Young then his older brother Dylan Young led two laps. Next up Paul Koffler III took the top spot and led eight laps with a crazy battle going on in the top five. Cautions on lap 11 and 12 kept the field tight. The race ended up being 13 laps with the late caution and it was Brad Beatty sneaking by for his second of the season. 2018 Champion Brady Miller was second over Bruce Betres, Mike Potter, Dannie Mullen, Brooks Kaufman, Larry Weltz, Todd Detrick, Brad Lemonovich and David Needham. The three heats were won by Steve Settie, Bill Eckenrode and Jack Theys.

In the Rookie 4 Cylinders Lance Marshall took the win over Chad Lidwell. Marshall became the fifth different winner with no repeaters yet. Dustin Gibbons won the heat.
