8.28.21 Sooner Late Model Series Results

by John Rittenoure – PARK CITY, Kans. (August 28, 2021) – Dusty Leonard survived an early battle for the lead to win his first Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series feature Saturday at 81 Speedway.

Leonard is the 15th different driver to win a Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model feature this season.

The Marysville, Kansas driver was one of three Kansas drivers in the top five. Leonard was chased to the finish by Woodward, Oklahoma driver Kaleb Roach, Clint McFadden of Valley Center, Kansas, Woodward driver Mike Roach and Valley Centers Darren Moses.

Sixth place finisher Kip Hughes had to scramble to make the show and retain is points lead over Hayden Ross. After finishing second the night before at Tulsa Speedway Hughes went home to change engines. The three-time defending champion was a late arrival Saturday and missed his heat race. Hughes started 18th in the 25-lap main event and charged his way through the field just missing a top five finish. Points challenger Hayden Ross was 11th.

Hughes now holds 60 point lead over Ross.

The CWT Sooner Late Model Series is back in action on September 11 at Enid Speedway.
