Ludlow Falls, Ohio driver Matt Westfall scored a repeat win in the MPD Racing BOSS portion of the Kokomo Smackdown on Saturday night. He set the tone for the evening when he piloted the Ray Marshall Motorsports 33M to fastest overall qualifying time at 13.301 in group 2. He would charge from the 6th starting spot to 2nd in the first 3 laps and would take the lead on lap 5 and lead the remaining 20 laps unchallenged.

Thirty-nine cars registered for the BOSS portion of the show and cars drew into 4 heat races. Dustin Clark paced Comp Cams Qualifying group #1 with a 13.583. Westfall led group 2 with the 13.301. Noah Gass was fastest in group 3 at 13.437 and finally, Lee Underwood would best group 4 at 13.881.

Heat races were won by Matt Goodnight, Cole Bodine, Dallas Hewitt and Dustin Ingle. The 4 heat races were run with only one caution flag when Steve Hair made hard contact with the wall in the fourth heat race. A pair of 10 lap B-Mains were also run. Dustin Clark scored the win in the first B over Kyle Shipley and Dustin Smith. The second B-Main was won by Isaac Chapple over Korbyn Hayslett and Cody Gardner.

Dustin Ingle drew the pole position for the 25 lap A-Main with Lee Underwood alongside. Cole Bodine and Noah Gass would start from row 2. Matt Goodnight and Westfall would go from the third row. Ingle would grab the early race lead but Westfall was on the move in a BIG hurry. The first of 5 cautions would fly on lap 2 for Tyler Gunn who spun. Ingle led the restart with Westfall already up to second. Just 3 laps later, he would take over the lead and never be seriously challenged.

In the pack, the movers and shakers of the night were Kyle Simon (from 13th) and Korbyn Hayslett (from 20th) who both charged through the field looking to take the “Hard Charger” honors. At the halfway mark, it was Westfall, Gass, Bodine, Underwood and Ingle as the top 5. Noah Gass’ evening turned south on a lap 15 incident involving Brandon Long , ending his night.

A lap 23 caution for Sterling Cling and Isaac Chapple set up a green, white, checkered finish, after repairs were made to the Kokomo Speedway catch fence from Cling’s car finding some airtime, but staying upright. Westfall cruised home the winner with Cole Bodine runner-up and a late charging Kyle Simon in 3rd. Dallas Hewitt holds onto the series point lead with his 4th place finish and Lee Underwood rounded out the top 5. Luke Hall finished 6th while Korbyn Hayslett took the “Hard Charger” award advancing 13 spots to finish 7th. Rounding out the top 10 were Ingle, Clark, and Cody White.

The next race for the MPD Racing BOSS tour will be on Saturday, September 12th at Oakshade Raceway near Wauseon, Ohio. A year ago, BOSS brought sprint cars BACK to Oakshade after a near 20 year absence, to an enthusiastic standing-room-only crowd and a great field of 28 sprint cars.
