8.8.20 Volunteer Speedway Results

BULLS GAP, Tenn. (Aug. 8, 2020) — Legendary country music group Shenandoah entertained the crowd Saturday night at Volunteer Speedway with an outstanding concert playing all of their top hits, and Ross White of Knoxville also put on a show in winning the Crate Late Model Bubba Can Dance 30.

White was fastest in Crate Late Model qualifying with a quick lap at 13.379 seconds to earn pole position for the 30-lap main event.

White grabbed the lead on start over Shannon Emery, Tim Maupin, Cameron Weaver and Nathan Martin. Weaver drove around Maupin for third on the second lap and closed right in on Emery’s back bumper. Racing off the fourth turn on lap 5, Weaver passed Emery for second and set his sights ahead on leader White.

With the race running clean-and-green, White was setting a blistering pace out front being chased by Weaver and Emery, followed by Maupin and Martin. Behind them action back through the field saw drivers jockeying for position racing two- and three-wide around the high banks involving Jordon Horton, Adam Ahl, Rusty Ballenger, Brad Dyer, Pierce McCarter, Heath Alvey, Taylor Coffman, Jeff Neubert and Chris Chandler.

The only caution waved on lap 23 when Alvey slowed with a flat left-rear tire.

The field stacked back up for double-file restart for a seven lap shootout to the checkered flag. White powered back out to the lead with Weaver in pursuit. But just as he had done from the start, White showed his strength by easily completing the flag-to-flag run to victory in winning over Weaver, Emery, Maupin and Ballenger. Completing the top 10 finishers were Martin, McCarter, Dyer, Coffman and Ahl.
Adam Engel led the opening 13 laps of the Classic feature before dropping out after dumping fluid on the track. Defending track champion John Stevens assumed the lead and over the final 7 laps battled with Bobby Mays and Tim Bounds. But Stevens would not be denied his fourth trip to victory lane on the season as he won over Mays, Bounds, Kevin Crane and Charles Bates.

Zack Walton of Blountville captured his fourth straight Front Wheel Drive victory by outrunning John Ketron, Tanner Earhart, Jason Ketron and David Trent.

In the first-ever appearance by the Mini Late Models at Volunteer Speedway, Jack Orr led first three laps before being passed by Dakota Morris, who proceeded to distance himself from his challengers. With Morris holding a commanding lead, disaster struck on lap 17 at end of the front straightaway when unexpectedly the engine blew in his ride sending him spinning between turns one and two bringing the caution out. … Skylar Delaney, from Sparta, captured the victory to take the trophy back to Middle Tennessee with Jonathan Ingram, Jack Orr Jr. (11 years old), Heath Seaton and Nathan Ingram rounding out the top five finishers.
