9.10.16 Lincoln Speedway Results

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA 9/10/2016 – The youth movement continued in the final points race of the season for “”358” sprint cars at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night.

Rookie Brent Shearer of Manheim became the sixth different first-time winner in the 20-lap feature event. Shearer, who came from 19th to fourth a week ago, started fourth and finished the job this week, holding off two-time track champ Jeff Rohrbaugh at the end.

It was not without drama, as front row starter Tyler Walton grabbed the lead from polesitter Ashley Cappetta and led the first 14 laps. Shearer took the lead from Walton at the line to complete lap 15, and Walton drove up over Shearer’s right rear entering turn one. Walton flipped, and Shearer drove out of a 360 spin and never stopped, giving him the lead for the restart with five laps to go.

The final five laps saw eighth-starting Rohrbaugh charge into the runner-up spot, but he could never catch Shearer.

Rohrbaugh settled for second, with 10th-starting Jeff Halligan third, 11th-starting Matt Campbell fourth, and Matt Findley fifth. Completing the top ten were Adrian Shaffer, Chris Arnold, Chandler Leiby, Cody Fletcher, and C.J. Tracey.

Leiby’s eight-place finish clinched the 2016 Keiser Aluminum Wheels 358 sprint car championship for the Carlisle teenager who just graduated from high school a few months ago. Campbell finished second in season points for the second straight year, with Shaffer a close third. Both drivers entered the evening trailing Leiby by just 55 points.

Heats for the 30 358 Sprints were won by Halligan, Arnold, and Campbell, with Mike Bittinger winning the consolation.

Cam Zeigler took advantage of a crash involving the front row at the outset, and drove the Walls family #98W away to a 5.87-second win over Brad Shank in the 20-lap “358” late model feature event.

Front row starters Travis Mease and Randy Stoudt smacked together in turn two of lap one, ending both of their nights. Precise Racing Products point series leader Sam Gallagher drove into the pits during the caution to change a flat tire, but then dropped out later in the event.

Zeigler and Shank assumed the front row for the complete restart, and ran first and second the entire way.
Third through fifth were Shaun Jones, Jake Jones, and Randy Christine, Jr., who came from 12th starting spot.

Heats for the 20 358 Late Models were won by Shank and Zeigler.

Jeremi Hanson started on the pole and led all 20 non-stop laps for his second consecutive Lincoln win in the PASS/IMCA 305 sprint car feature. His 20-lap time was 5:42.18, good enough to hold off a closing 11th-starting John Barnett at the finish. Third through fifth were Tyler Reeser, Colby Dice, and Rick Stief.

Heats for the 29 PASS/IMCA (305) Sprints were won by Drew Ritchey, Reeser, and Ron Aurand, with Kyle Ganoe winning the consolation.

Next Saturday night, September 17th, at 7:30 PM, Lincoln Speedway will host the first-ever LAWRENCE CHEVROLET SPORTSMAN KEYSTONE 50 for the Super Sportsman. Rounding out the show will be the Central PA Legends and Street Stocks. Gates will open at 5:30 PM.
