9.11.21 Lincoln Speedway (Pennsylvania) Results

Abbottstown, PA (September 11, 2021) – After his dominating win on Saturday night, Jason Covert was quick to point out that this was his first super late victory at Lincoln, “I’ve won two limited races here, this is the first super race I’ve won here. I told Bryan I’d love to go to Lincoln to race, yeah, we need money, but I don’t care what it paid. I just wanted to win a super race here and we did it.”

Covert started on the front row of the 30-lap feature alongside pole-sitter, Shaun Jones, “It helped to be on the outside front row. He got the jump on me there and then he went to the bottom in 3 and 4 and that opened the top.”

Once Covert took the lead, he never looked back.

Pole-sitter Shaun Jones got a solid start when the green flag dropped with Tyler Horst and Covert battling for second. Horst had second coming out of turn 2 but Covert got him back to hold on to the runner-up spot.

Horst looked under Covert again, but Covert had his eyes set on Jones for the lead. Covert looked to the outside of Jones for the lead and had the advantage at the line by a mere .019 seconds on lap 2.

Bryan Bernheisel was battling Horst for third and took the spot. Horst had it back briefly on the backstretch, but Bernheisel held the spot at the line.

Covert had a 2.267 second lead over Jones when he caught the tail end of the field on lap 7.

Bernheisel was closing in on Jones as they worked their way through heavy lapped traffic. Jones was eventually able to pull away from Bernheisel in lapped traffic.

Covert’s lead was up to 3.360 seconds at the halfway point. Covert’s sizeable advantage over Jones was wiped away with a caution on lap 16. Pancho Lawler and Chad Myers got together on the front stretch, right in front of Covert.

Covert avoided the melee and led Jones, Bernheisel, Horst and Brett Schadel to the cone for the restart.

Dylan Yoder was looking to get into the top five and went three wide coming out of turn 4 with Schadel and Horst. Schadel took fourth, Yoder got up to fifth and Horst fell back to sixth.

Horst was trying to get fifth back from Yoder when the yellow came out on lap 21 for Dan Weisser who was stopped in turn 2.

Covert led Jones, Bernheisel, Schadel, and Dylan Yoder for the late race restart.

Covert took the checkered flag for his first super late model win at Lincoln 3.041 seconds ahead of Jones. Bernheisel crossed the line third. Yoder was fourth and Schadel completed the top five.

Super Late Model heat race wins went to Dylan Yoder, Andrew Yoder and Tyler Horst.

Young-gun Jayden Wolf Wins in Second Lincoln 358 Start

In only his second career start in the 358 sprint division at Lincoln, and his fifth start overall in a 358 sprint car, Jayden Wolf wired the field for his first win on Saturday night, “To be honest with you I’m speechless. I didn’t think I was even going to be in the top 10. This is incredible and I am very grateful for where I am right now.”

Wolf held off an early race charge from Justin Foster, “I was just planning on getting a good start and just hoping to keep it straight and smooth and that’s what we did.”

Later in the race veteran driver, Steve Owings, was challenging Wolf for the lead, “Being new I was just worried about over driving or driving over my head, getting too nervous.”

Saturday Night was the final race in the MacMor Construction 358 Summer Series. Going into the 25-lape feature, Travis Scott held a 45-point lead over Chris Frank in the series points.

Hayden Miller and Jayden Wolf shared the front row for the start of the feature with Wolf leading the field into turn 1. Miller was running second and Justin Foster was third. Scott started third with Foster getting by him on the start. Scott looked to take the spot back as the two raced wheel-to-wheel down the back stretch. Foster held the position by a nose at the line on lap 2.

Scott dove under Foster going into turn 3 to take second but the caution came out before the pass was official. The lap 3 caution was for Dan Richcreek who was facing the wrong direction in turn 2.

Wolf led Miller, Foster, Scott and Owings to the cone for the single-file restart. Wolf held the lead with Foster getting a solid jump on Scott. Scott reeled in Foster in one lap just in time for another yellow flag on lap 4 for Zachary Cool who got sideways in turn 1.

There was no change in the top five for the restart. Foster looked to the outside of Miller for second but could not complete the pass. Scott was being challenged by Owings for fourth with Wolf pulling away from the field.

Owings got by Scott for fourth on lap 9 just as Wolf was entering lapped traffic.

Foster would be Owings’ next victim. Owings got by Foster going down the back stretch to take third on lap 11 and went straight to work on reeling in Miller.

Wolf had heavy lapped traffic in front of him, allowing Miller and Owings to close in.

The caution came out again on lap 14 when Billy Heltzel stopped in turn 3.

The top five for the restart were Wolf, Miller, Owings, Foster and Scott. Owings got to the outside of Miller in turns 1 and 2 to take second.

Owings caught Wolf and was looking for a way to get by the young driver for the lead. Lapped traffic loomed ahead of the leaders with 10 laps to go.

The yellow flag flew on lap 20 when Zach Allman came to a stop in turn 2.

Wolf paced the field ahead of Owings, Miller, Foster and Scott on the restart.

Wolf got a good jump on the start. Owings was good in turns 1 and 2 with Wolf having the advantage in turns 3 and 4.

The red flag came out on lap 22 when Mason Chaney took a wild ride in turns 1 and 2.

Foster looked to the outside of Miller on the restart and the two raced wheel to wheel down the back stretch with Foster making the pass for third.

Miller, Scott and Riley Emig were battling for fourth as the laps wound down.

Wolf got to the checkered flag .499 seconds ahead of Owings for this first win. Foster held on to third. Scott finished fourth, securing his first Summer Series Championship. Miller completed the top five.

Heat race winners in the 358 sprint car division were Chad Criswell, Cameron Smith and Riley Emig.

Ken Duke Jr Declared Winner after DQ

Mike Melair ran an impressive race and wired the field for what appeared to be his first win at Lincoln. Melair failed to go to the scales after the 20-lap feature resulting in him being disqualified from the race. With the DQ, Ken Duke Jr. was awarded the win on Saturday night.

Melair started on the pole with Kristina Pratt to his outside. Pratt was penalized on the start for not being side-by-side at the chalk line. That put Ken Duke Jr. on the outside of row 1.

Melair took the lead when the green flag dropped. Duke was right there and the two raced side-by-side down the back stretch. Melair held the lead and the two raced wheel-to-wheel coming out of turn 2 with Melair once again holding on to the top spot.

Melair used some good runs out of turn 2 to create space between him and Duke.

Garrett Bard, who won both 305 sprint features at Lincoln in 2020, was up to fourth from his sixth starting spot. Bard was all of Mikell McGee for third.

The caution came out on lap 7 when Kenny Heffner came to a stop on the front stretch.

Melair led Duke, Bard, McGee and Justin Mills to the cone for the restart. Bard got a run on Duke using the high line creating a three-car battle for the lead.

The yellow flag flew again on lap 9 when Erin Stattler and Dominic Melair got tighter on the inside of turn 4. Austin Reed and Donnie Hendershot were stopped in the top of turn 4.

Duke was trying everything to get by Melair. He looked to the inside of the leader, but the caution came out on lap 10 when Dustin Young spun in turn 2.

Bard looked under Duke for second as they drove into turn 1 but was not able to make the pass. Mills drove under McGee in turn 4 to take fourth on lap 13.

Lapped traffic loomed ahead of the leaders as the laps wound down. Bard once again looked to the inside of Duke as they worked through lapped traffic but did not make the pass.

With Melair’s DQ, Duke was scored the winner. Bard was second and Mills finished third. McGee was fourth and Doug Dodson completed the top five.

The 305 sprint car heat races were won by Justin Mills, Kenny Heffner, Erin Stattler and Garrett Bard.
