9.14.19 Canyon Speedway Park Results

During the final Non Wing Sprint Car race of the year, Brody Roa dominated by leading green to checker en route to adding to his USAC Southwest Series point lead. Cody Center would pick up another point on George Fronsman with his third Allscapes Stock Car win in a row, coming on the back of his Stock Car Shootout crown. Heath Dry became the fifth different winner of the season in the Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer Sport Mods while John Priest lost a heartbreaker to Sean Conyers in the Modlites. Finally, it was Mason Keefer grabbing his fourth win of the year in the Micro Sprints while he tries to close the gap on points leader Brandon Sutton.

The USAC Southwest Sprint Cars made their final trip to the Peoria 3/8 mile oval on Saturday night, with Hunter Schuerenberg kicking things off with a quick time of 14.38 during Beaver Stripes Qualifying. Charles Davis Jr (14.46) and RJ Johnson (14.53) rounded out the top three during time trials. When heat race action fired off it was Schuerenberg and Davis both winning their respective races, with both racing their way to the win from the 6th starting position. During the feature, Brody Roa and Zachary Madrid kicked things off from the front row with Roa gaining the early advantage. While the top three from qualifying had to race their way through traffic to get to the front, Roa enjoyed the advantage of starting from the pole position. The California driver would dominate from flag to flag, earning his second win of the year at CSP in USAC competition. In five events, Roa would be the only driver to become a repeat winner, as well as the only driver to finish in the top five in each race. Roa captured the win ahead of Johnson, Schuerenberg, Davis and Dennis Gile. Matt Lundy would earn two bonus payouts by becoming the Hard Charger of the event, racing from 14th to 9th while also being the top finishing 360 cubic inch powered machine.

Eight Allscapes Stock Cars checked in for action on Saturday night with the young Georgie Fronsman earning his division leading 7th heat race win of the season. At feature time, Georgie would kick off the show from the pole position alongside his father George, but it was Cody Center from the second row who would earn the first lap led. From his 3rd starting position, Center would lead from flag to flag, picking up his 4th win of the year (3rd in a row). Center remains perfect in the Top Five department, finishing there in all 11 points races so far this year, while George Fronsman, Nate Warren, Georgie Fronsman and Joey McCullough rounded out the top five behind him. Depending on car count for the final show of the year in two weeks, Center may have wrapped up the Stock Car Championship, extending his point lead to 11 points over George Fronsman.

Chase Rudolf continued his domination in the Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer Sport Mods by kicking off Saturday night with his 2nd heat race win of the year alongside Heath Dry who grabbed his 1st. In feature action, Dry would take off with the early lead from the pole position, heading the field for the first 8 circuits before Bryan Miller took control at the point. Miller would tack on seven laps lead to his season total before Dry made a move back around for the lead with five laps remaining in the race. Dry would go on to win ahead of Lyle Askren Jr, Miller, Dominque Askren and Tony Miller. Chase Rudolf would finish in 10th, only his second time this season outside of the top five. With a 28 point lead over Speedy Madrid, Rudolf has officially wrapped up the 2019 Sport Mod Championship going into finale weekend.

Ten Modlites arrived to Canyon for their portion of the Southwest Championships, where it would be John Priest and Collin Bender picking up heat race wins early in the night. As feature action got underway, it was John Priest leading the field to the green flag alongside Bender. Priest would jump out to the early lead, hanging on to the front position for a large majority of the race. In the late portion of the event, Priest began to lose power due to a fuel line issue, allowing the window to be opened for Sean Conyers. Priest would lead all but the last lap before Conyers made his way by, only leading the final circuit on his way to the feature win ahead of Priest, Steve Bender, Collin Bender and Brandi Myers.

Eighteen Micro Sprints made their way to Canyon as the season begins to wind down with only two more events remaining after the Southwest Championships. AJ Hernandez, Brandon Sutton and Chloe High picked up heat race wins to kick off the evening. In feature action, an opening lap red flag incident involving pole sitter Eric Bartlett saw Drake Edwards go upside down. Edwards would be ok, and on the ensuing restart, AJ Hernandez would take control of the race. Hernandez would lead the opening 6 laps before point leader Brandon Sutton made his way by for his first lap led of the season. Sutton’s stint up front wouldn’t last long as Hernandez made his way back by to lead lap 8 before giving way to Josh Castro. The battle heated up out front, but eventually it would be Mason Keefer from the 6th starting position making his way by Castro for the lead on lap 14. Keefer would lead the rest of the way en route to his division leading 4th win of the year ahead of Castro, Sutton, High and Dale Eliason Jr.
