9.14.19 Lincoln Speedway (PA) Results
Abbottstown, PA (September 14, 2019) – The Super Late Models made their first return to Lincoln Speedway since 2013 on Saturday night. Rick “Scrub” Eckert won the last Super Late Model race held at the track, and after six years, he found victory lane once again taking home $6,000 in the inaugural Billy Vacek Memorial.
Gregg Satterlee had the quickest time in the scramble qualifying format which allowed him to select the inside our outside of the front row for the 40-lap feature. After seeing three of the four heat races won from the outside, he elected for the outside. That lined up quick-timer Bryan Bernheisel to his inside for the start of the main event.
Satterlee had the advantage going into turn 1 when the green flag dropped and led lap 1 with Rick Eckert getting by Bernheisel for second.
The first caution of the race came on lap 4 for Steve Axtell who stopped in turn 4.
The field lined up for a Delaware style restart which sets the field with the leader out front and the remainder of the field lined up side by side. Satterlee was out front with Eckert and Bernheisel lined up behind him.
Eckert held onto second with Mason Ziegler moving up to third. Bernheisel stayed close and raced wheel to wheel with Ziegler trying to take the spot back with Jason Covert watching the battle unfold in front of him.
Eckert caught Satterlee and was all over him trying to take the top spot.
Bernheisel took third back from Ziegler on lap 6 and Covert followed.
Eckert took the lead from Satterlee coming out of turn 2 on lap 9.
Only three laps after taking over the top spot, Eckert held a .72 second lead over Satterlee lap 12 as he entered lapped traffic.
The yellow flag flew again on lap 15. This time it was for Ziegler who slowed on the track as he was running eighth.
Eckert was out front for the restart with Satterlee and Bernheisel lined up behind him.
Bernheisel took over the second spot after restarting on the inside of Satterlee.
Satterlee went low into turn 3 and 4 and nearly took second back. As Bernheisel and Satterlee battled for second behind him, Eckert started to pull away from the field.
After falling back to seventh at the start of the race from his fifth starting spot, Gary Stuhler had made his way back up through the field to fourth on lap 19.
Eckert held a 2.8 second lead halfway through the 40-lap feature.
Satterlee had just taken second back from Bernheisel when the caution came out on lap 21 for Covert who slowed on the track as he was running seventh.
Eckert led Satterlee and Bernheisel on the restart.
Ross Robinson entered the top five on the restart after starting tenth. It didn’t take Robinson to move up to fourth and challenge Bernheisel for third.
Kyle Lee stopped in turn 2 bringing out the yellow on lap 23.
Robinson got under Bernheisel in turns 3 and 4 to take third on lap 25. Bernheisel got him back on the next lap.
Eckert had rocketed out to a 3.9 second lead with 10 laps to go. Lapped traffic came into play on lap 32 but it didn’t slow Eckert down.
The caution on lap 34 erased Eckert’s 4.7 second lead over Satterlee. The yellow was for Billy Wampler who stopped in turn 2.
With under 10 laps to go the field lined up for a single file restart. Eckert led Satterlee, Bernheisel, Robinson and Stuhler for the restart with six laps to go.
Eckert took the checkered flag 4.425 seconds ahead of Satterlee. Bernheisel crossed the line third with Robinson finishing fourth. Stuhler completed the top five.
Gene Knaub was the hard charger driving through the field to finish eighth from his eighteenth starting spot.
Heat winners were Mason Ziegler, Mike Lupfer, Rick Eckert and Gregg Satterlee.
Bryan Bernheisel set quick time over the field with a lap of 15.583 seconds.
Matt Findley Establishes Track Record with Win
Matt Findley established a 25-lap Lincoln track record of 7 minutes 2.436 seconds with his 358 Summer Series win on Saturday night. Findley also secured his second-place finish in the season long point standings with his non-stop feature win.
2019 358 Sprint Track Champion, Doug Hammaker, started on the pole of the feature with Findley lined up to his outside.
Hammaker went to the top of the track to lead lap 1 with Findley in second. A three-car battle for third between Cody Fletcher, Wyatt Hinkle and CJ Tracy was transpiring behind the leaders.
Hinkle drove to the top of turns 1 and 2 to take third on lap 3 from Fletcher.
Tracy went to work on Fletcher for fourth and takes the spot on lap 6.
Hammaker entered lapped traffic on lap 8.
Jeff Halligan, who was back in a 358 Sprint after some seat time in a 410 at the track, got a good run on Fletcher coming out of turn 2 on lap 8 but Fletcher blocked his line down the back stretch to hold onto fifth.
Halligan beat him to the line to take fifth after making the pass coming out of turn 4.
Hinkle had reeled in Findley and was challenging him for second as they worked through lapped traffic.
Halligan got under Tracy down the back stretch on lap 12 to take fourth.
The leaders were all running the high line around the track as Findley closed in on Hammaker on lap 16.
Findley looked to the inside of Hammaker, but a lapped car was driving his line down the back stretch. Findley stayed with Hammaker despite the lapped car to take the lead at the line on lap 18.
Hammaker stayed close with only two laps to go but Findley ran the top of the track to victory and beat Hammaker to the finish line by .872 seconds.
Hinkle crossed the line third. Halligan finished fourth and Tracy rounded out the top five.
Heat winners were Doug Hammaker, Kevin Nouse and Jeff Halligan. Kyle Denmyer won the B-main.
Billy Powell Victorious in xTreme Stocks
After leading the beginning of the xTreme Stocks’ last appearance at Lincoln Speedway, Billy Powell was leading when it counted on Saturday night to win the 15-lap feature.
Wayne Dutterer started on the pole with Andrew Hogue on the outside of the front row.
Hogue took the lead and led lap 1. It didn’t take long for the first caution to come out. The yellow flag flew just after lap 1 was completed for Jeff Gill who stopped in turn 4.
Hogue led Powell, Dutterer, Gordie Marshall and Michael Smith to the cone on the front stretch for the restart.
Powell pressured Hogue on the start and was all over his bumper down the back stretch.
As Powell was working on Hogue for the lead a three-car battle for fourth was unfolding between Smith, Jed Latshaw and Marshall. Smith emerged from the battle with the fourth spot.
Powell was getting his nose under Hogue going into the turns, but Hogue would come out with the advantage, maintaining the lead.
Smith took third from Dutterer going into turn 3 on lap 5.
Powell got under Hogue going into turn 1 on lap 6 to take the lead. After taking the lead Powell pulled away from Hogue and the rest of the field and never looked back.
Hogue held onto second with Smith crossing the line third. Tim Berkheimer finished fourth after starting last and driving through the field. Latshaw completed the top five.
