9.19.20 FAST Sprints Results

Lockbourne, Ohio’s Cole Duncan raced into the lead on lap 4 of the 30 lap main event Saturday night, and went on to lead the remainder of the race, picking up $10,000 in the “Atomic Blast”. It was Cole’s fourth win of the year at Atomic and his second win of the year with the Ti22 Performance FAST on Dirt tour aboard the Ohio Heating, Helms Construction, Motorcity, Gressman Powersports, FK Indy #22.

A stout field of 36 sprint cars signed in and were split into two flights for qualifying. Buddy Kofoid would set quick time in flight A with a 12.538 lap over Duncan, Cale Conley, Hunter Schuerenberg and Brinton Marvel. Flight B was led by Mitch Harble with a 13.036 over Ryan Myers, Lee Jacobs, Tyler Gunn and Jimmy Stinson.

Heat races were won by Cap Henry, Jac Haudenschild, Jake Hesson and Brandon Wimmer. Joining them in the redraw were the fastest qualifiers from each heat race who transferred which were Kofoid, Duncan, Harble, and Gunn. Hesson would pull the number one pill with Jac Haudenschild drawing the 2. Duncan would go from the third spot with Cap Henry outside the second row.

The B-Main saw 4 more cars added to make a 24 car starting field. Brandon Conkel scored the win with Lance Webb, McKenna Hasse, and Bryan Nuckles also earning main event spots.

The 30 lap main event roared to green before another fantastic Atomic Speedway crowd with Hesson out on the point followed by Haudenschild and Duncan. Duncan quickly got by for the runner-up spot and chased down Hesson on lap 4 to wrestle away the lead. The first of 3 yellow flags flew on lap 6 after FAST points runner-up, Cody Gardner, made heavy contact with the turn 3 wall and limped to a stop. He was able to rejoin the field after a quick trip to the All Star Performance work area. Four laps later, Hunter Lynch would spin in turn 4 after a mechanical issue hit the 00H machine.

On the restart, the running order was still Duncan in the lead with Haudesnchild up into second, Hesson still third. Hunter Schuerenberg had roared from 12th to 4th with Wimmer completing the top 5. At the halfway mark, Duncan finally encountered lapped traffic, with Schuerenberg now up to third, but the final yellow would come out on lap 16 for Danny Smith.

The final 14 laps would run caution free for Cole Duncan, despite heavy lapped traffic in the closing laps. Jac Haudenschild kept him within striking distance but was never able to seriously challenge for the lead. The margin of victory was 2.242 seconds. Trailing Duncan and Haudenschild were Schuerenberg, FAST points leader Tyler Gunn and Buddy Kofoid rounding out the top 5. The rest of the top 10 were Lee Jacobs, Brandon Wimmer, Chad Kemenah, Jacob Hesson and Cap Henry.

The next FAST event is next Saturday night, September 26th at Fremont Speedway when they pair up with the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series for a doubleheader of wing and non wing 410 sprint car action! Also, October 3rd, FAST returns to Atomic Speedway.
