9.21.18 Clinton County Speedway Results

Lock Haven, PA- Jim Yoder led all but one lap and went on to win the inaugural CW “Skip” Smith Memorial Race for limited late model stock cars. Yoder grabbed the lead following the start, enroute to earning $1,000 dollars in the 28 lap A Main. Pole sitter JR Toner dropped in second and chased Yoder during the first six laps. Toner briefly took the lead streaking under Yoder and the flagstand, to lead lap seven. Yoder immediately regained control with Toner in second. The first caution flag appeared during lap eight when fourth place racer Joe Lusk had problems along with Mike Smith and Luke Hoffner. Lusk rejoined action while Smith and Hoffner were forced to call it a night. Upon restarting, enter Andrew Yoder, who took over second spot on lap eight and kept the pressure on as the leaders battled through traffic. Lusk was involved in a second cation with 16 laps down. Lusk went to the pit area and was out for the night. John Myers also went to the pit area with a flat tire. Myers was able to rejoin the field and complete the event.

With both Yoders’ out front, Devin Hart was third followed by Matt Cochran and John Lee. The top five remained the same until JR Toner grabbed fifth place from Lee on lap 18. Cochran began his move to the front following the races final caution periods on laps 25-26. Eric Hohol was forced to the pit area. Rich Wicker, Tim Luben, and John Lee were able to resume and complete the event. Matt Cochran got past Devin Hart on lap 26 and mounted a final charge to grab the win. Cochran got by Andrew Yoder on the white flag lap and threw a last ditch scare at Jim Yoder in lapped traffic as they raced to the checkered flag. Yoder was the winner with Cochran second. Andrew Yoder was third with Hart fourth. JR Toner was fifth. Sixth through tenth were Randy Croop, Lee, Myers, Gary Mellott and Rich Wicker. Jim Yoder and Hart won heat races. There were 17 cars. It was Yoder’s fifth win of the season at the 3/8th mile oval.

Yoder reflected after his winning drive. “ I knew he (Cochran) was there. I heard him. I love racing here. This place(CCMS) is my favorite speedway. The track was great tonight.”

Johnny Bouse won the pro stock feature for the fourth time this season. The Smith Memorial winner became the tracks leading pro stock winner season. Duke Davidson led the first seven laps after starting from the pole position. The race was under yellow for a turn three skirmish that forced Kevin Vanamburg to the pit area for the night. Bouse grabbed the lead after the restart and never looked back. The race was under yellow a final time, on lap nine, for Duke Davidson and Kyle Bachman. Both were able to resume action. AY Schilling chased Bouse the second half of the event but was unable to complete a pass. At the finish Bouse and Schilling were followed by Buck Mills, Robert Tressler, Rich Fye, Kyle Bachman, Duke Davidson, Art Stevens, Vanamburg and Brad Myers. Schilling and Davidson won qualifiers.

Jim Yoder and Johnny Bouse were presented trophies for their victories by Jason Smith, son and retired racer of the late CW Smith. Smith said, “ It’s a pleasure to present these trophies in my fathers name and be part of making this race possible.”

Bobby Sanso scored his third 270 micro sprint feature win of the year over runner up Jeff Weaver. Daniel Wertman started on the pole and led the first lap before Sanso took over. The race ran non stop with Wertman in second place until lap three. Weaver moved into the runner up spot during lap five and remained there. Denny Rinehimer grabbed third as Wertman eventually faded to sixth.
The finish was Sanso, Weaver, Rinehimer, Skeetz Hockenbrock, Timmy Bitner, Wertman, Buddy Kramer, Tom Quiggle, Ben Oakley and Kyle Stahl. Weaver and Hockenbrock won qualifiers.

Garret Bard won the 600 micro sprint main for the sixth time this season. Jeff Weaver finished second with Jake Hummel third. Josh Beamer, Paul Upson and Bobby Sanso followed. Bard also won the heat race.

Clinton County Motor Speedway is in action Saturday October 20 with a two division super late model, pro stock racing program sponsored by S&R Towing and Recovery of Milesburg, PA and G&R Excavating and Demolition of Tyrone, PA. Additional details will be forthcoming.

15 year old rookie limited late model driver Matt Tebbs demolished his race car following a vicious crash into the turn one wall near the pit entrance. The accident occurred during the second heat race. Tebbs was not injured. The car required a skid steer loader to place it on a rollback following the accident.
