9.22.18 Enid Speedway Results

By John Rittenoure – ENID, Oklahoma (September 22, 2018) – One month ago Kip Hughes was celebrating after finally winning a Sooner Late Model Series feature at home. Three previous attempts earlier in the season had failed due to mechanical issues.

Now there is no stopping him. Saturday at Enid Speedway Hughes was perfect winning his heat then outrunning Mark Harrison for a second straight victory at the track he co-promotes with Mark Brill.

It was the fourth victory of the season for Hughes which put him into a tie with Eddie Tidwell for the series points lead.

It only took three laps for Hughes, who started outside second row, to pass early leader Hayden Ross. Hughes passed Ross in turn four and stayed in command as Ross and Tidwell gave chase.

However, Harrison was on the move and charged into second after a lap nine restart. Late in the race Ross spun into the front stretch wall to bring out another yellow. On the restart Harrison closed in on Hughes but could not mount a challenge and finished second. Chris Kratzer held on to third leaving Tidwell, who came into the night with a 45-point lead over Hughes, with a fourth place finish.
