9.25.20 BOSS Sprints Results

Pleasant Hill, Ohio veteran, Matt Westfall, aboard the Ray Marshall Motorsports 33M, went down in history as the first ever main event winner north of the Ohio border on Friday night. A perfect fall day and evening set the stage for a great crowd and a field of 29 cars signed in for action at the I-96 Speedway just north of Lake Odessa, Michigan.

Fenton, Michigan tour regular, Steve Irwin, set overall quick time during group 1 of Comp Cams qualifying with a 16.276 lap. Westfall paced group 2 with a 16.311 and Lee Underwood topped group 3 at 16.449. Tyler Gunn, Luke Hall and Dustin Daggett won heat races with Keith Sheffer taking the B-Main.

Irwin and Hall brought the field to the green flag with Westfall and Gunn starting from row 2. Hall, aboard the Jon Nelson owned 9N led early, with Irwin and Westfall in tow. A trio of yellow flags slowed the action for spins by Joe Hummel, Buddy Lowther and Lee Underwood. The race was also slowed by one red flag for an emergency in the spectator area that was not racing related.

As the race wore on, a heavy cushion had developed and working lap 19, Hall buried the right rear deep into and over it, allowing Westfall to close up and slide past him down the front stretch. Two laps later, Westfall did the same thing, but recovered quick enough to hold Hall behind him. Westfall raced on to post a win by a mere 1.089 seconds over Hall. Tyler Gunn, the current FAST on Dirt winged points leader, ran another fine race to come home third. Isaac Chapple found the bottom to his delight and charged from 9th to finish 4th while point leader Dallas Hewitt ran 5th. Rounding out the top 10 were Irwin, Sheffer, Brian Ruhlman, Dustin Daggett, and Cody White.
