9.27.18 BOSS Sprints Results

The third attempt was indeed the charm for the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series and Kokomo Speedway last night. The combined USAC / BOSS Kokomo Sprint Car Smackdown was run under cool fall temperatures. But the action on the track was hot! Former BOSS champion, Mike Miller of Wapakoneta, Ohio, has been known as “The Magic Man” for years. Last night, he proved he still had some magic left in the bag, as he pulled off a late race pass to steal the win from Michael Fischesser.

The night began with 31 cars signed in for battle. The field was split into 4 heat races with the top 4 going to the main event from each. Josh Cunningham, Miller, Jake Scott, and Dallas Hewitt scored victories in the heats with Cole Ketcham picking up a convincing win in the B-Main.

The 25 lap main event found Michael Fischesser on the pole with Mike Miller beside him. At the drop of the green flag, it was third starting Dustin Smith who appeared to be the man to beat as he rocketed from his 3rd starting spot to lead briefly. Fischesser was able to move to the top of the track and find his rhythm and quickly advanced past Smith and set sail at the point.

Despite 2 caution flags and a late race red flag, Fischesser was able to maintain the lead. Behind him, past tour champs Miller and Smith waged a titanic battle for the runner-up spot. Miller was able to get to the runner-up spot secured before a lap 23 red flag when last year’s rookie of the year, Paul Dues, got upside down.

With the final green flag unfurled, The Magic Man dug deep to pull out the trick to get past Fischesser. On the final lap, Fischesser drove in hard and deep on the cushion to draw even with Miller on the backstretch, but Miller was a little better through the final corner and scored the popular win. Smith held on for third withh Tyler Gunn charging from 12th to 4th and Jake Scott completing the top 5. The rest of the top 10 was Steve Irwin, Andrew Prather, Dallas Hewitt, Cole Ketcham, and Bill Rose.
