9.28.19 Canyon Speedway Park Results

All five of the respective IMCA divisions crowned champions on Saturday night, while the Micro Sprints closed in on their season finale with only one race remaining. Guy Norton snagged the win with a crossover move at the finish line in the race of the night during Arizona Differential Modified action while Chase Rudolf ended his championship season on a high note with a win in the Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer Sport Mods. Cody Center earned his fourth feature win in a row in the Allscapes Stock Cars, securing his title, and Joe Vlasity picked up his fourth win of the season in the Desert Restorations Hobby Stocks. In Sport Compact action it was Jackie Parmeley sweeping the night en route to her championship while Mason Keefer secured win number five on the season in the Micro Sprints.

13 Arizona Differential Modifieds checked in on Saturday night to close out the points season at CSP, with point leader Ryan Roath and former champion Guy Norton both earning heat race wins. In main event action, Guy Norton jumped out to the early lead, pacing the field with a blistering pace on the top side of the 3/8 mile track. The battle in the top five raged on as Jay Foster, Roath, Nate Warren and Chase Alves swapping positions throughout the entirety of the event. As the white flag waved, Foster got a run to the inside off turn two, leading to a slide job to try for the win heading into the final corner. As Foster slid up, Norton turned down the track as the two drivers drag raced to the line with Norton picking up his first win of the year by a mere .02 seconds at the line ahead of Foster, Warren, Roath and Alves. As Norton celebrated in victory lane, Roath’s 4th place finish was enough to secure the 2019 Arizona Differential Modified title.

With 19 Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer Sport Mods attending the Night of Champions event, point leader Chase Rudolf, Speedy Madrid and Lyle Askren Jr picked up heat race wins to kick off the evening. With CSP utilizing the special format for the finale weekend, Rudolf and Madrid found themselves on the front row to start up feature action. Capping off a dominant season, Rudolf would run away from his pole starting positions, leading from green to checker. Winning 6 of the 10 points events in Sport Mod action, Rudolf would finish the season in big fashion, earning his first Canyon Speedway Park track championship. Bo Partain worked his way up from his 5th starting spot to earn runner up honors coming off a solid showing at the Boone IMCA Supernationals, while Darin Center, Madrid and Askren rounded out the top five.

In Allscapes Stock Car action, 13 cars were ready to battle as the top two drivers in points, Cody Center and George Fronsman, earned heat race wins. Once again the special format saw the heat race winners start in the front of the field for the Stock Cars. Center and Fronsman battled early with the point leader eventually driving away with the victory. The win was Center’s 4th in a row as he widened the gap late in the season en route to earning the Allscapes Stock Car crown for 2019. Fronsman would finish 2nd for his 9th top 5 of the season. JC Parmeley, Lonnie Foss and Virgil McArthur rounded out the top 5.

Desert Restorations Hobby Stocks saw 13 cars check in for a battle that would see the top 3 in points still in contention for a title as Saturday night kicked off. The top two in points showed their strength as Peterson and Vlasity would earn the heat race victories to start off the night. As the feature rolled onto the track, Vlasity showed the speed he has demonstrated all year long as he led from green to checker, finishing just ahead of Peterson. Although Vlasity did all he could in his power to put together a night that would earn him enough points, Peterson kept Vlasity in his sights enough to pin the title on himself. Richard Bennett would finish 3rd with Max Zachrison and Chandler Dodge filling out the top 5.

Recent disqualifications in the Sport Compacts saw the points standings get flipped upside down, throwing the battle up in the air for title contenders Jackie Parmeley and John Barron. Parmeley would take advantage of the special format for the evenings event by sweeping both heat race and feature event action, leading all possible laps. The sweep of the night would earn Jackie Parmeley her first CSP title, while Barron, Christine Ayres and Brian Zelenka would round out the field.

Micro Sprints saw 21 cars checked in for Saturday night’s show with Kurt Johnson, Drake Edwards and Mason Keefer picking up heat race wins. Drake Edwards jumped out to the early lead to pace the field for the first 8 circuits around the speedway with Keefer waiting to make his move. On lap 9 it would be Keefer driving around Edwards to lead the field as he has done for a large portion of the season to this point. Keefer would not relinquish, earning his 5th win on the season ahead of AJ Hernandez, Edwards, Cameron La Rose and Jackson Wellman. One night remains in the point season for Micro Sprints with Sutton leading the field into the finale, still looking for his first win of the season.
