9.28.19 Red Clay Late Model Series Results

Blue Ridge, Georgia (09/28/19) – The Red Clay Series 602 Late Models Series rolled into Georgia’s Blue Ridge Motorsports Park on Saturday evening for the second annual Thunder on the Mountain event, and it was current point leader, Booger Brooks who continued his hot season.

The Tennessee racer picked up the $1,500 top prize for his fourth series triumph of 2019.

Booger Brooks would set the Boyd Bilt Fabrication Fast time over a field of 20 cars with a lap time of 15.919 seconds. Ryan Knight would be a close second with a lap time of 16.006. Seth Wimpy was also not far behind with a lap time of 16.009. Colten Jackson, Matthew Knight and Jacob Parris would round out the top 6 to lock in for the #FATBOYRACING Dash for Cash.

Ryan Knight grabbed the lead in turn one on the outside and go on to win the #FATBOY Dash for Cash by a few car lengths. Jacob Parris would catch the wall coming off turn 4 and not finish the dash. Booger Brooks, Colten Jackson, Seth Wimpey and Matthew Knight would be the finishing order for the dash.

Berry Construction Heat Race 1 would see Daniel Brewer and Brad Thomas on the front row. Brewer would get the lead on the start and never look back. Brad Thomas would distance himself as well from the others on his way to his runner up finish. Pete Cochran, Derek Franks, John Howard, Wesley Scott and Reese Stillwell would complete heat 1.

Anthony Hill Grading Heat 2 would see Bobby Elkins and Justin Begley on the front row. Bobby Elkins lead flag to flag with Justin Begley not far behind. Dillion Pierce, Brad Abercrombie and Jeff Helms would complete the heat. Jason Berrong would be disqualified from the heat and would have to start from the rear of the field for the feature after a suspension infraction.

As the feature was set to start the field did the four wide salute to the fans to get things kicked off. Brooks and R. Knight brought the field to the green. Brooks would get the jump off of turn two to take the lead and never give it back. Knight would stay close behind as the field completed lap one. As the field would complete lap one Jeff Helms would come to a stop on the front stretch to bring out the caution and retire for the night.

On the restart the field would have small pile up in turn 3 and 4 causing significant sheet metal damage on Brad Thomas’s car. Thomas would change a tire and get the sheet metal pulled away just in time to tag the tail of the field as it was going green. Brooks would again keep the lead as wimpey would get by Knight coming off of turn 2 to take second. The field would run several green flag laps with Brooks, Wimpey and R. Knight separating themselves some from the rest of the field. Colten Jackson would be the next one to bring out the caution after making contact with another car battling for 4th, 5th and 6th. Jackson retired for the night after the incident. As the field went green Stillwell would pull in the infield and Abercrombie would do the same a lap later. Brooks started catching lap traffic as he had grown his lead to a full straightaway at this point.

Wimpey, R. Knight where running nose to tail with Parris, Brewer and Matthew Knight running as a pack. The rest of the field was running in 2 car packs as it stretched around the speedway. Brewer would have electrical issues with his battery shorting out after passing Parris for 4th. The field bunched back up and returned to green flag racing.

Cochran brought out the last caution on lap 25 with a blown radiator hose going into turn 3. Cochran was able to keep it out of the wall. With the field set for a 5 lap dash. Brooks would lead Wimpey, R. Knight, Parris, M. Knight back to the green. Brooks got another good restart and pulled out to car length lead as R. Knight and Wimpey would race side by side for the next 2 laps for second. M. Knight would also follow in his brother s good restart and get by Parris during the 5 lap dash to take home fourth. Brooks, R. Knight, Wimpey, M Knight and Parris would be the top five at the line.

Next on the docket, the tour thunders into Patriots Park Raceway (Dublin, Georgia) on October 4-5 for the KRC Power Steering Clash on the High Banks. Friday night’s program posts a $1,000 winner’s check, while Saturday night will reward the victor with a $1,500 top prize. More than $9,000 in total purse money is on the line.

For the Patriots Park Raceway weekend, traction shocks will be allowed and cars with reverse mount fuel pumps must weigh 2,450 lbs per track rules. American Racer South will give away one tire per night to the highest finisher, who is running American Racers.
