Brighton, Ont. – Sunday, September 3rd, 2017 – The Southern Ontario Sprints returned for their second night of racing at Brighton Speedway for the 15th Annual Labour Day Classic Weekend. 20 cars were on hand for the eleventh round of the 2017 season.
After picking up the win on Saturday night, Jake Brown started on the pole along older brother Mitch for Sunday nights 25 lap main event. Mitch used the outside line in corner two to grab the lead on the opening lap while Jake settled into the second spot.
Steve Lyons, Holly Porter and Lee Ladouceur ran behind the top two for much of the first half of the race and had a good battle for positions third to fifth.

By the mid-point of the race Cory Turner and Dylan Westbrook made their presence known in the top five. The pair worked through the field from their 16th and 13th starting places respectively. A restart on lap 20 gave both drivers the chance to catch the Brown brothers and challenge for the top two spots.

On the final lap Turner and Westbrook slipped past Jake Brown, however they didn’t have anything for the leader as Mitch Brown cruised to the victory. The win was Brown’s first of the year with the SOS. Turner crossed the line in second for the second night in a row while Westbrook finished third. Jake Brown held on to finish fourth over Holly Porter.

Heat race wins went to Jamie Turner, Rick Wilson and Jake Brown.

At the end of the evening nine cars competed in the third annual Simon Petit Memorial Wingless Sprint Car Dash. Defending race winner April Wilson started on the pole and led all 10 laps for the victory.

Paul Pekkonen challenged Wilson and made things interesting in the final two laps, but was unable to take the lead. At the finish Chris Jones slipped by Pekkonen for second. Lee Ladouceur and Holly Porter (No. 0p) finished fourth and fifth.
The tour returns to action on Saturday, September 9th at Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, Ontario. The race will be the final points race of the season for the SOS. For more information visit www.merrittvillespeedway.com.
