9.4.20 Sooner Late Model Series Results
by John Rittenoure – MUSKOGEE, Okla. (September 4, 2020) – Damian Patocka was in the right place at the right time and it was good enough for a victory in the Sooner Late Model Series feature Friday at Outlaw Motor Speedway.
A yellow flag waved on lap 18 of the 25-lap feature for Hayden Ross. On the restart leader Kip Hughes lost power in turn four and coasted to the infield. Patocka inherited the lead and led the final eight laps to earn his second victory of the season.
The first half of the race proved to be very competitive as Zach Nichell set the early pace over Gary Lowe and Wayne Bush. After three laps Ross and Patocka moved up and battled for third. Patocka drove into second on lap six. Meanwhile two-time defending champion Hughes was charging his way from an 11th starting position and passed Patocka then Nickells for the lead on lap eight. Hughes pulled away from the field until the yellow waved on lap 18.
At the finish Ryan Lowe advanced to second followed by Eddie Tidwell in third. Nickells fell to fourth and Cliff Morrow was fifth.
