The 15th Annual Red Miley Rumble for the Rohrich RUSH Late Model dirt series presented by Colussy Chevrolet and Stan’s Transmissions in memory of Bob Bentz Sr. would go down in the history books on Saturday evening at Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile. PPMS would see qualifying, seven heat races, a six-lap dash, and six feature events. Daryl Charlier (114), from Midway, would out-pace a stellar field of RUSH Late Model drivers to win the 15th Annual Red Miley Rumble. Chaz Wolbert (C3), from Howland, Ohio, would pass JC Boyer (12) at the line by 0.016 seconds to pick up the win for the RUSH Sportsman Modified Series. Stephen Shelpman (17S), from Pleasant Hills, picked up win number four of the 2021 campaign for the Priority Equipment Rental Hobby Stocks, while Nick Kocuba (10), from Burgettstown, picked up win number three for the ADMAR Penn Ohio Pro Stocks. Hemi Kineston (05) would grab his second win of the season for the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders, and Logan Koteles (5K), from Stockdale, would pick up win number eight for the All Ways Safe Young Guns.
Zach Morrow (60), from Gibsonia, would set the fast-time in qualifying for the Rohrich RUSH Late Model Dirt Series with a time of 19.313. Charlier (114) qualified second and was only 0.201 seconds behind Morrow (60) with a time of 19.514. The qualifying finish would determine their starting spots in their two heat races. The top three from each heat would enter the redraw for the six-lap dash. The finish of the dash would determine the top three starting rows for the 15th Annual Red Miley Rumble.
In the Rohrich RUSH Late Model six-lap dash, Michael Duritsky (90J), from Masontown, would start on the pole. Morrow would start to his outside in second place in the Stan’s Transmissions number 60. Mike Reft (9R), from Pittsburgh, would start in third, Jake Gunn (14G), from McDonald, would start in fourth, Cole Petrelle (84), from Follansbee, West Virginia, would start in fifth, and Charlier (114) would round out the six-car field. When the green flag dropped in the dash, Morrow (60) would take the early lead. The lone caution would come on lap three when Gunn (14G) would hit the wall between turns three and four. Once green replaced yellow, Morrow (60) would go on to win the dash, ensuring him as the pole-sitter for the 15th Annual Red Miley Rumble 40-lap feature event.
With Morrow (60) starting on the pole in the 40-lap main event, Charlier (114) would line up to his inside in second place. The second row consisted of Duritsky (90J) and Petrelle (84). Reft (9R) would start to the inside of the third row in fifth, and Nico Dabecco (42) would complete the top three starting rows with Gunn (14G) out of the event from his crash in the dash. When the green flag dropped, Morrow (60) would pull away with the early lead, but the event’s first caution would slow the pace on lap one when Philip Bubeck (2) spun coming out of turn four. Morrow (60) would take the outside on the restart with Charlier (114) to his inside. Morrow (60) would again keep his lead but a lap three caution would come for debris on the track. Morrow (60) and Charlier (114) would lead the restart with the only change to the top six being Dabecco (42) and Reft (9R) swapping fifth and sixth respectively. Reft (9R) would regain fifth on lap five with Dabecco (42) falling back to sixth, with the top four the same as they started the event. The top six would remain the same through lap 10. Then on lap 13, Morrow (60) and Charlier (114) would enter lapped traffic. Morrow (60) would use the lapped traffic to try and distance himself from Charlier (114) and the rest of the field, but Charlier (114) would stay right on his bumper as they danced through the lapped cars. On lap 19, Charlier (114) would make the pass for the lead coming out of turn two. Another caution would come at the halfway point of the event when a car had trouble in turn two. Charlier (114) would choose the outside on the restart with Morrow (60) to his inside in second, and the remaining top six as they started the race. Charlier (114) would keep his lead when green replaced yellow and Duritsky (90J) would take over second place, forcing Morrow (60) to third. Another caution would slow the pace on lap 25 when Duritsky (90J) made contact with the outside wall between turns three and four which ended his night. Charlier (114) would again choose the outside on the restart and he would keep his lead when the field returned to green flag conditions. Charlier (114), Morrow (60), and Petrelle (84) would run one, two, and three through lap 30 when the caution was back out for Bill Kessler (09) who made contact with the wall under the flag stand and stopped at the entrance to turn one. Charlier (114) and Morrow (60) would lead the restart with 10 laps remaining in the event. Despite a late-race caution with three laps to go, Charlier (114) would lead the remaining 10 laps of the event to win the 15th Annual Red Miley Rumble. “We’ve been racing here since this track opened up in I believe 1979, I was fortunate enough to know Red a little bit, I mean I was a young boy unfortunately when he passed, but I’m glad that the Miley’s continue to put this on in honor of him, and I’m glad to be out front and take that one home” Following Charlier (114) to the line was Morrow (60) in second, Petrelle (84) in third, Reft (9R) in fourth, Dabecco (42) in fifth, Justin Lamb (20G) in sixth, Bryan Hoffman (15H) in seventh, Andy Spooner (85) in eighth, Kassidy Kamicker (72B) in ninth, and Kessler (09) rounds out the top 10. The heat race winners were Morrow (60) and Charlier (114).
10 RUSH Sportsman Modifieds were signed in on Saturday night. They had one heat race and the top four from the heat race would enter the redraw. JC Boyer (12), from Burghill, Ohio, would start on the pole. Starting to his inside in second place was Jordan Ehrenberg (JD57), from New Castle. The second row consisted of Wolbert (C3) and three-time season winner Justin Shea (14S). When the green flag waved in their 15-lap feature, Boyer (12) would take the early lead. Lap two had Boyer (12) still leading, Ehrenberg (JD57) still in second, Wolbert (C3) still in third, Shea (14S) still in fourth, and Chelsea Kreigisch (10) in fifth. They would remain the same until lap six when Wolbert (C3) would take over second place. The event’s lone caution would come on lap seven when a car had trouble in turn one. Boyer (12) would take the outside on the restart with Wolbert (C3) to his inside. Boyer (12) would keep his lead when green replaced yellow with Wolbert (C3) right behind him. Wolbert (C3) would make several attempts at the lead but Boyer (12) kept slamming the door on him. The duo would battle side by side until the end of the event, and Wolbert (C3) would make the pass for the lead at the checkered flag by 0.016 seconds. Boyer (12) would finish second, Shea (14S) in third, Ehrenberg (JD57) in fourth, Kreigisch (10) in fifth, Jacob Rutana (11J) in sixth, Cole Edwards (29) in seventh, Doug Rutana (70B) in eighth, and Jacob Jordan (28J) would round out the nine-car field, as Kole Holden (2) did not start the heat race or the feature. The heat race winner was Wolbert (C3).
The Priority Equipment Rental Hobby Stocks have quickly become one of the premier divisions at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway and they certainly didn’t disappoint on Saturday evening. The Hobby Stocks had 19 cars signed in. They were broken into two heat races with the top four from each heat entering the redraw to determine their top eight starting spots in their 20-lap feature event. Points leader, Frank Magill (05), from Jefferson Hills, would start on the pole. Starting to his inside in second place was Ben Anton (13), also from Jefferson Hills. Cody Tokarski (26T), from Hickory, would start third, while Adam Ferree (29), from Jefferson Hills, would start fourth. John Cain (06), from North Versailles, and Danny Rich (221K), from Imperial, would start fifth and sixth respectively. Stephen Shelpman (17S) would start in seventh, and Matt Benard (15) would complete the top four starting rows. When the green flag waved in their 20-lap feature event, the field wouldn’t even complete a lap before the caution was out for two cars that spun in turns three and four. A complete restart would ensue. When the green flag waved again, F. Magill (05) would keep the early lead, but another caution would come on lap one for debris in turn three. F. Magill (05) would choose the outside on the restart and would retain his lead. Lap four had F. Magill (05) still leading, Ferree (29) in second, Shelpman (17S) already up to third, Tony Magill (5) up to fourth, and Benard (15) up to fifth. Benard (15) would take over fourth and Shelpman (17S) would take over second on lap six with F. Magill (05) still leading the field. Another caution would come on lap eight when the motor blew in the 221K of Danny Rich, which put oil on the front stretch. F. Magill (05) would take the outside on the restart and he would again keep his lead with a battle for second behind in between Shelpman (17S), Ferree (29), and Benard (15), as they went three-wide in turns one and two. Shelpman (17S) would keep his second spot with Benard (15) taking third, and Ferree (29) now in fourth. Shelpman (17S) would make his move and take over the lead from F. Magill (05) as they came out of turn two on lap 12. Another caution would come on lap 18 when F. Magill (05) spun in turn two. Shelman (17S) would lead the restart and take the outside with Benard (15) now to his inside in second place. Ferree (29) was in third, Jonathan Koteles (2K) in fourth, and T. Magill (5) in fifth. With two laps to go, the field wouldn’t complete a lap on the restart when J. Koteles (2K) made incidental contact with Benard (15) on the back-chute which caused Benard (15) to hit T. Magill (5) and they both went into the wall. The field would line up and give it another try with two laps remaining in the event. Another caution would come on the restart when a car spun out in turn two. Again, the field would line up and give it another try with the remaining two laps on the line. When green replaced yellow for the final time in the event, Shelpman (17S) was able to hold on for the win. He was followed to the line by Ferree (29) in second, J. Koteles (2K) in third, Roberth Betz (22) in fourth, Ben Anton (13) in fifth, F. Magill (05) in sixth, Tom Anton (64) in seventh, Mike Tropeck (47T) in eighth, John Gill (121) in ninth, and Benard (15) would complete the top 10. The heat race winners were Shelpman (17S) and Benard (15).
In the ADMAR Pro Stock 15-lap feature, Noah Brunell (18), from New Alexandria, would start on the pole. Starting to his inside in second place was Kocuba (10). Bill Robertson (1B), from Washington, would start in third, and Brian Huchko (60H) would complete the top two starting rows. When the green flag dropped, Kocuba (10) would pull away with the early lead. Kocuba (10) was still leading on lap three with Huchko (60H) in second, Robertson (1B) in third, Jackson Billyk (5) in fourth, and Jacob Billyk (4) in fifth. The top five would remain the same until the event’s lone caution would come on lap eight for a car that spun out in turn two. Kocuba (10) would take the outside on the restart with Huchko (60H) to his inside. When green replaced yellow, Kocuba (10) would keep his lead with Huchko (60H) in tow. Kocuba (10) would lead the remaining laps of the event to pick up his third ADMAR Penn Ohio Pro Stock PPMS win of the season. He was followed to the line by Huchko (60H) in second, Robertson (1B) in third, Jackson Billyk (5) in fourth, Jacob Billyk (4) in fifth, Jacob Billyk Jr. (4JR) in sixth, Tanya Charlier (21) in seventh, and Brunell (18) completed the eight-car field.
The Crawford Auto Repair Four-Cylinders had eight cars signed in on Saturday evening. They had one heat race with the top four making the redraw. Hemi Kineston (05) would be the pole-sitter for their 10-lap feature. Eric Reynolds (53) would start to his inside in second place. Lucas Weaver (11W) would start in third, while Bob Quaigg (2B) would start in fourth, Derek Quigley (65Q) would start in fifth, and Craig Rudolph (5R) would complete the six-car starting field, as two drivers did not start the feature. When the green flag waved, Kineston (05) would take off with the early lead. Lap two had Kineston (05) still leading, Weaver (11W) in second, Quaigg (2B) in third, Reynolds (53) in fourth, Quigley (65Q) in fifth, and Rudolph in sixth. Quigley (65Q) would take over fourth place on lap five and set his sights on the leader but Kineston (05) would lead all laps of the event, en route to his second win of the season. He was followed by Quigley (65Q) in second, Quaigg (2B) in third, Reynolds (53) in fourth, Weaver (11W) in fifth, and Rudolph (5R) in sixth. Noah Bubeck (2) and Justin Pellegrini (29P) both did not start the feature. The heat race winner was Weaver (11W)
The All Ways Safe Young Guns had five cars signed in on Saturday night and ran a feature only. So, their pill draw would determine their starting spots for their eight-lap feature. Emmerson Laboon (14), from Elizabeth, would start on the pole. Starting to her inside in second place was Gavin Kokolis (91), from Oakdale. Logan Koteles (5K), from Stockdale, would start in third, while Sadie Snatchko (56), from Oakdale, would start in fourth, and Cameron Hollister (44), from McDonald, would complete the five-car field. When the green flag dropped, Laboon (14) would pull away with the early lead. Lap one had Laboon (14) still leading, L. Koteles (5K) now in second, Hollister (44) now in third, Snatchko (56) in fourth, and Kokolis (91) in fifth. The order would remain the same on lap two, but L. Koteles (5K) would take over the lead at the end of that lap coming out of turn four. That was the only position change from that point on and L. Koteles (5K) would go on to pick up his eighth Young Guns win of the season. He was followed to the line by Laboon (14) in second, Hollister (44) in third, Snatchko (56) in fourth, and Kokolis (91) in fifth.
Racing resumes at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway next Saturday, September 11, 2021, for the Priority Equipment Rental Hobby Stock Invitational presented by Jones Motorsports in loving memory of Josh Langer. This race will pay $1,111 to win and as well as a tribute to Josh Langer, it will also honor the 20th Anniversary of September 11th. First responders and active military members will receive free grandstand admission with a valid ID or first responder certificate. PPMS will also be featuring the Rohrich RUSH Late Model Dirt Series, the ADMAR Penn Ohio Pro Stocks, the Crawford Auto Repair Four-Cylinders, and the All Ways Safe Young Guns.
