9.5.20 FAST Sprints Results

The Ti22 Performance FAST on Dirt sprint cars toured the 3/8th’s mile Butler Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Tour regular, Cody Gardner, led the first 19 laps, through 4 yellow flags, but was overtaken by Michigan driver Josh Turner, who went on to lead the final 9 laps. The excitement was very evident in victory lane as Turner celebrated his second career sprint car feature win and, as he put it, “the biggest win” of his career.

Sixteen 410 sprint cars signed in for the night. Keith Sheffer was overall quick time in Comp Cams time trials with a 13.865 to lead group 1 over Gardner and Tyler Rankin. Turner was quickest in group 2 with a 14.156 over Garrett Green and Zane Devault. Series point leader, Tyler Gunn, got off to a rough start when he hit a turn 1 rut, and bounced over the turn one banking. He would have to start heat 1 from the tail.

Keith Sheffer won the NAPA Auto Parts of Fremont – heat race #1 from the fourth starting spot over Gardner, Tyler Rankin, Jordan Harble, and Logan Easterday. Tyler Gunn was eliminated in the heat when a spinning car collected him, continuing his Butler nightmare. Jordan Harble was also a victim in that incident, but was able to continue. Helms & Sons Construction, heat #2 was won by veteran racer Mark Aldrich from the pole over Zane Devault, Josh Turner, Garrett Green and Greg Dahlman.

Sheffer drew the pole for the main event with Cody Gardner alongside. Turner and Aldrich started from row 2. At the start, Gardner wasted no time shooting straight into the lead, but was hampered by a plethora of caution flags. The first yellow would fly on lap 4 for the 48 car of Nick Hull. Just 2 laps later, Keith Sheffer, who was battling for the lead, got a little too high off the edge of the race track and spun to a stop. A third caution would come out on lap 9 when Zane Devault and Mark Aldrich got together off turn 4, ending Aldrich’s night.

The fourth caution came out for Tyler Gunn, whose misery continued with a flat tire on lap 15. The Gunn crew was able to execute a tire change and rejoin the field from the tail, where he would charge back up to a 5th place finish and earn the “Hard Charger” of the night award after starting 15th on the grid originally.

With restart after restart, Turner and Zane Devault were able to stalk the leader and try different lines. The trio raced hard and close, with some contact. But no harm, no foul, and Turner squeezed by for the lead working lap 20. Gardner fell to second, but never out of striking distance. Devault applied heavy pressure for the runner-up spot in the closing laps, but 2 more late yellows would now put Turner to the restart test!

A final green, white, checkered finish saw Turner cruise to victory as Devault got past Gardner on the last lap to take runner-up honors. Garrett Green drove a great race to come home fourth, with Gunn completing the top 5. Jordan Harble also had a very rough night, after the heat race incident, was able to run 6th as he lost an engine coming to the checkers. Rounding out the top 10 were Dahlman, Easterday, Troy Chehowski and A.J. Aldrich.

The next event for the Ti22 FAST on Dirt tour is the $10,000 to win “Atomic Blast” on Saturday, September 19th at Atomic Speedway, just south of Chillicothe, Ohio. One week later, FAST will join the BOSS non wing tour for a visit to Fremont Speedway on Saturday, September 26th. We hope to see everyone at the races!
