(PETERSEN MEDIA- Petaluma, CA)- It only took seven minutes and four seconds to complete the 30 lap feature event on Saturday night, but fans did not get cheated as Sean Becker made a late race move over Zack Lynskey to win his sixth career Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster feature event at petersen-media-civil-war-round-5-podiumthe Petaluma Speedway, and lock himself in the August 20th Johnny Key Classic.
With Becker and Lynskey on the front row of the feature event, the packed crowd was a buzz as the feature went green. Lynsky, a local at the Petaluma Speedway who just kicked off his 2016 season two weeks ago, jumped out to the early lead with a pair of Civil War Champions on his tail.
Out front, Lynsky would set a quick pace on a tricky Petaluma Speedway surface that offered the 22 car field a little bit of everything. Lynskey would soon feel pressure from Becker and Andy Forsberg, but the Suisun, CA wheelman didn’t let them intimidate him as he continued to work through traffic.
With the crowd glued to the three-headed fight for the top spot, Sebastopol, CA driver and current Petaluma Speedway point leader, Bradley Terrell was weaving his way through the field from his 15th starting spot, as he was simply going where he found open real estate.
In heavy traffic amidst the non-stop feature event, Becker and Forsberg would both make their moves on the 17th lap, but Lynskey was able to counter and reclaim the top spot, as the crowd erupted with approval.
Lap 22 saw Sean Becker make his move in turns one and two, as he took the lead down the backstretch and officially led the 23rd lap. Able to open up his lead just ever so much, ‘The Shark’ would lead the final seven laps to move into a tie with Andy Forsberg at the top of the Civil War Series’ all time wins list at Petaluma Speedway, and also earn a spot in the Johnny Key Classic.
“I really have to thank Dan Monhoff for putting me in his car, and coming out to race,” Sean Becker said in Victory Lane. “I had other plans, but in racing things happen and Dan was eager to do this. We were fast all night long, and that was an exciting race to win.”
Lynskey would see his great night culminate with a second place finish as Andy Forsberg, Bradley Terrell, who charged from 15th, and Mason Moore rounded out the Top-Five.
Finishing sixth on back would be Geoff Ensign, Brett Rollag, Jake Haulot, Cody Lamar, and Michael Ing completing the Top-10.
Saturday night saw 27 Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster cars check into the Speedway and Sean Becker would get things opened up by laying down the fastest lap during qualifying time trials.
Three heat races were ran with wins going to Becker, Michael Kofoid, and Lynskey, while Day Day Lindt won the night’s B Main over Cody Lamar, Koen Shaw, Justin Henry, Roberto Kirby, John Clark, and Eli Deshaies, who all transferred to the feature event.
Zack Lynskey won the Dash and earned the right to start on the pole.
