7.13.18 Lakeside Speedway Results
Late-afternoon clouds rolled into the Missouri River Valley and brought a welcome decrease in the afternoon temps for King Auto & Diesel Repair race night. Six competing divisions were on hand with a total of 86 cars signed in for Racing on the River’s Edge. Among the car present were 8 Factory Stocks, 6 Grand Nationals, 15 E-Mods, 13 USRA Stock Cars, 24 USRA B-Mods, and 20 USRA Modifieds.
Preliminary events recap: It seems like a needle skipping on a vinyl record each week as once again Marshall Jewett began the night with a victory in the Factory Stock heat race. Don Marrs commanded the lone heat race for the Grand Nationals while Ben Stockton and Billy Spillman collected E-Mod wins. Tim Shields held off a strong run by Kevin Anderson to take the first USRA Stock Car heat while Brett Heeter captured heat two. Last week’s feature winner Andy Bryant kicked off the USRA B-Mod heats with a victory as Don Marrs, Austin Charles, and Tim Galvin also drove to B-Mod wins. USRA Modifieds wrapped up the heat action with three events as Springfield, Missouri’s Ryan Gillmore, Gunner Martin, and Darron Fuqua picked up the wins.
Main events recap: J.R. Billings paced the opening laps of the 10-lap Factory Stock main event before season dominator Marshall Jewett took command on lap three and went on to secure his ninth win of the season. Billings was second with Wayne Brooke third. Terry Bivins took command of the Grand National main event and never looked back as he captured his second win of the year over a strong run by Nick Drew, Jr. and Kacey Shields. It was a green-white-checkered flag finish for the E-Mods as defending champion Billy Spillman prevailed for a seventh win this season, this time over Eddie Ingram and Tim Billings.
In the Rick Beebe Heating & Air Smokin’ Hot Summer Series by Prime Racing Products divisions, Brett Heeter became the first series winner as he kept the rest of the competition at bay to collect his sixth USRA Stock Car triumph of the season over Kevin Anderson and Sam Scott. USRA B-Mods were next in the lineup and it was Brad Smith who appeared to collect his third feature win of the season holding off a furious charge by Tim Powell, who started the event 23rd on the grid before moving all the way to second place at the finish. However, post-race technical inspections led to disqualifications for both Smith and Powell. Andy Bryant was declared the winner, followed by Doug Keller from 14th to 2nd and Daniel Harris. For the final event of the night, USRA Modifieds took to the track for a 20-lap main event. Lance Town took command from the drop of the green and despite some early race challenges by teammate Darron Fuqua, went on to collect his second main-event win of the season. Fuqua crossed the line second followed by Gunner Martin.
Up Next: On Friday, July 20th, the Weekly Racing Series continues with the Factory Stock Karl Tinsley Memorial special event plus USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods, Grand Nationals, and E-Mods plus 4-Cylinders. The Pit Gate Opens at 5 p.m. followed by Spectator Gates at 5:30, Drivers Meeting 7:15, Hot Laps 7:30, and Racing at 8.
