6.16.18 Tazewell Speedway Results

After fighting gremlins and bad luck in last week’s UCRA event third-generation driver Jason Trammell of Knoxville returned to what he does best, taming the high banks of Tazewell Speedway in his Limited Late Model. Trammell turned the quickest time in qualifying with a lap of 12.650 seconds with Sneedville’s Jordon Horton recording the second quickest time on a challenging dry slick track. Starting on the outside of the front row Trammell quickly took the point on the back stretch trailed by Horton, Tazewell’s Clyde Overholt and Thorn Hill neighbors Brian Shockley and Matthew Holt, in his first start of the season.By the fifth lap Trammell began puttting distance between himself and Horton. On back a good battle was going on for the fourth spot between Shockley, Holt and Mitchell Burke of Tazewell. Up front Trammell led from green-to-checkered for his furth win of the season in the Trammell Construction, Hatmaker Holdings, Fastlane Signs & Graphics, Dents R Us Collision Center, R&J Signs, Hoosier Race Tire South, XS Batteries, Winchester Welding, R&R Sandblasting, Charlie Brown Signs, Brucebilt Performance sponsored Rocket XR-1 Race Car with power from a Vic Hill Racing Engine.

For the second week in a row Crate Late Models were on the racing card. Russellville’s Aaron Guinn recorded the quickest lap in time trials with a lap of 12.801 seconds. John Llewellyn of Knoxville was second quickest with a lap of 12.884 seconds. With Guinn drawing a three on the pill draw Jason Trammell, doing double duty driving, would start on the pole of the thirty lap feature alongside Llewellyn. With the drop of the green Llewellyn took the lead with Trammell, Jordon Horton, Jody Horton of Sneedville and Guinn close behind. As the field was storming down the front chute to record the first lap Trammell’s car would develop problems and end his quest for his second win of the night.

Pulling away from the field in the early laps Llewellyn was looking for vindication from not making last week’s UCRA feature. On back Guinn was racing door to door with Jody Horton for the third spot. On lap ten Guinn would take the spot away and start charging towards second. Just as it looked that Llewellyn was on his way to his first win of the season a flat right front tire would send his car slamming into the outside wall in turn four, ending his quest.

With the field reset Jordon Horton would assume the lead with older brother Jody taking over second. On the restart Guinn’s mount would slow on the speedway handing third over to Sportsman standout Jonathan Miracle of Tazewell. Jordon Horton led the rest of the way and held back big brother for the win in the Fair Fax, Norton Heating & Air, All Out Bonding, Discount Auto Parts, Competition Racing Equipment, Southern Pride Land & Cattle sponsored GRT Race Car. Horton also became the first driver in Tazewell Speedway history to notch a feature win in four different divisions. The Horton brothers would park their cars nose-to-nose in Victory Lane for a family photo.
